Hey i'm gonna say this here as well since noone ever answers in Tech Support.
Here are the three posts I made in Tech Support about Oblivion freezing:

I just installed an Nvidia 7950GT and 1GB Corsair XMS2 PC6400 RAM. I'm running the 93.71 Forcewares, and I keep getting constant freezes in Oblivion. It happens in no other game. They occur every 5 minutes or so, and require me to turn off my computer via the power button because no other alternative seems to fix the issue.

Someone mentioned overheating/working after this.

It happens 5 minutes after reboot as well, but it happens in no other games, so I know it isn't a heat/overworking problem. Also, I get past the screen of options just fine, and last night I played for a couple of hours undisturbed, but this morning it has gotten worse.

Someone said to increase virtual memory, I shouldn't need to considering I have it set at 2048 min & max.
Anyone have ideas?

Also, it now just crashes when I look at specific areas in game. No more freezing, just back to the desktop. I've tested many different things: IQ settings, mods turned on/off, etc.

Thanks for the links, but the thing is it only started doing it when I installed this stuff. Memtest shows no errors; checked it as soon as I installed. Worked fine on my X600Pro + just the initial Dell RAM.

i loved oblivion. only stopped playing cuz it always made me want to upgrade my graphic card, and when i lost my saves saves and decided a third restart (already restarted twice and put about 40+ hours each time) was not worth it. i loved its gameplay and the modding. get some good mods and the entire game changes. mod rule.

Noone can help me? I know it's not a driver problem because no other games have problems. I have defragged, scanned for viruses, spyware, the works. Now the crashes are getting more abrupt and worse as well.

I've narrowed it down: It does not happen if the settings are on very low. If I set it to low, it does not have bloom, but it uses shader model 2.0's ambient and texture lighting. This causes the crash when I look in the upper right corner of Castle Skingrad's Courtyard, and when I look in the middle of Chorrol (the Great Oak). I'm so confused.

I played a couple of hours of GTA3 and wasn't impressed.

I prefer turn-based strategy to real-time, so have never played Starcraft and am in no hurry to.

I find sports games boring.

Coke. Bruce Lee. Neo. Rock salt.

you gaming preferences are the complete and polar opposite of mine

That's very true,I found Oblivion to be a bit boring to tell you the truth, yes graphics are nice but gameplay was nowhere near as good as Morrowind ,finding things yourself the hard way was more fun, with Oblivion it's like you got a satellite navigation system built in to the WPs,also storyline was way too short and crap, unlike Morrowind which had depth etc and better story.

I still play Morrowind with all expansion packs and some nice house mods which still looks nice at 1680x1050 native res.
I feel with Oblivion they compromised between PC and console gameplay ,but missed the mark by miles.

Anyway each to their own,I know some like Oblivion while some don't,and others like me were disappointed with it.

I might as well share my opinion. The day I bought it I played it for 6 hours, and then I did the same everyday for about a month. Some games just are right for you, Oblivion was right for me. It is possibly the best game I have ever played.

It was fun, but doubt I'll play it anymore, even though there are still a ton of quests to complete.

Can anyone recommend a game to play now? NWN2 maybe?

wth do you guys like about it?

the Story is as Dull as a story can start [the exact opposite is G3 that starts GREAT then deteriorates] ... i feel like i have a HUGE *shopping list* to complete in a very LINEAR fashion ... and my party members are so UNinspired i don't care about them whatsoever.

if NWN2 were a Book, i'd skip to the Ending.

and there are a LOT of people that HATED morrowind ... for THEM, Oblivion is a HUGE improvement

letsee ... you had a Radeon before you installed you GeForce ....
make SURE every last "trace" of ATi drivers are gone [use a driver 'cleaner' or even do a complete new OS reinstall]

if that fails, use other nvidia drivers.

the OS reinstall will work ....

My major beefs with Oblivion were the lack of conversation and party members. Honestly, you don't just walk up to someone and say the word 'gossip' and expect them to tell you everything, do you?

To apoppin:
I've already run DriverCleaner, and I tried a couple of 91.XX drivers (not exactly sure which ones), and the 91.XXs fix the problem in Chorrol but it still exists in a couple of other places. Basically, they don't fix the problem entirely, but they help.

I had lockups too in Oblivion, took me ages to figure it out,in my case Oblivion did not like my factory overclocked 7800GT,all I did was set it to normal 7800GT default speed and no more lockups,so try underclocking your video card.

I would do something like that, but I am positive that the factory overclocking is not an issue. Heat is not a problem here. I have saves that are right next to the problem points, and if I look at the problem area, it crashes to the desktop.

*lack of converasation*?

it's like that in EVERY game ... when NPCs run OUT of things to say ... they repeat themselves or ignore you

NWN2 is no different with the conversations ... so what are you getting at?
:Q

Oblivion is NOT a Party RPG ... your *companions* are NOT meant to be individually controlled ... the Story in ES IV is all about YOU - the Hero of Cyrodiil
[please read the in game book "the Real Barezeniah" which tells the background and 'why' they are waiting for you]

i WILL tell you what i did NOT like about Oblivion - the world doesn't REACT to your changes status ... the Guards treat you like crap whether you are a Level1 beggar or the Level 53 Hero who just saved their city ... oh, well ... maybe ES-V
[G3 has the identical 'fault']

and Sorry to hear of your continued difficulties, 40sTheme

if you really want to play it, i'd suggest setting up a separate 10-15GB partition with a fresh install of your OS and 'only' Oblivion and needed drivers (you can experiment with).
[i do that for the most 'difficult' games]

and for me .... NWN2 is a huge disappointment

Well, thanks for feeling sorry for me. But I got it worked out (after many continued difficulties). It seems that if you change the Bloom parameters in Oblivion.ini and then turn HDR on, Bloom's on/off status is not changed in the configuration, and causes crashes whenever you look at an area of the sky that uses Bloom+HDR. Quick 1 to 0 change in the ini fixed it.
