Planetside 2 IMO is the best F2P model, STO is pretty decent too.

IMO I'd pay a sub for all benefits rather than having to pay for each little item and unlock needed. SWTOR is an example of this, I had my top tier PvP purple gear, 2 bank tabs, hidden helmet, etc. which I lost all of once SWTOR went F2P, had to pay 3200 coins for helmet unlock itself, etc and couldn't wear my PvP gear anymore (not that PvP was any good anymore after they've changed it). City of Heroes had a very similar effect, it was a great game that I was willing to pay $14/mo for, but once it went F2P it became garbage, if you wanted to play Mastermind (which was previously a standard archtype), you had to pay to unlock that archtype again- so forth.

Probably the biggest change you will see is the Justice system and changes to the Veteran levels. I never had a character that high for the Vet system I dont know

The Justice system, allows pickpocketing, looting, murdering etc. you will get a bounty if caught, fencing of looted items,

Any existing characters will get all the points refunded, so you can re-apply them

There is the crown store, which you will get some free crowns,
300(or 500 cant remember) for owning the game
100 X every 30 days that you had a sub
1500 for every 30 days of sub that you currently have left over, if you where still subbed

It should trickle in over the week if you have not received it all

I played for a month at launch, I'm curious what's changed. There were so many quest bugs that would stop your progress back then, I'm sure all that stuff is settled by now though. Downloading client now...

I wonder if dungeons are still full of bots that insta-kill the boss as soon as it spawns...

They must have been retarded to come up with that veteran leveling system.

So you beat the game on your faction, now you have beat the entire story line for both other factions? Aside from feeling way to grindy, that would make starting a new character on another faction like stabbing yourself in the eye after having to repeat content.

Should have kept it level 0-50 or whatever the cap was.

On top of that, you can tell they really dumbed down the game for console players, what is it, 6 abilities max on your bar?

I remember at launch there was no dungeons/raiding either so end game was pretty much just PVP.

That Vet system sounded a lot like the vet system in DAOC.
Im going to give it another shot. It is free except for my time.

Bots were dealt with a long time ago so none of those.
Vet levels were undeniably a last minute design to extend 'playability'. I personally enjoyed it, but then I hate having alts, so experiencing the whole game on one char was a good thing for me.
There was no dumbing down, in the same way GW was designed with a limited hotbar, this game limits you to 6x2 abilities which enables you to make varied builds rather than the old fashioned style of having 30+ skills to use. In a game where you can have over 60 skills available to you, it would have been really stupid to have a WoW style hotbar.

I'm still not sure the game is worth the time investment... I'm level 39 and remain bored stiff with leveling despite 10+ months off. I did really enjoy running dungeons at launch though so I might stick it out until I can polish off a dungeon or two more.

Is the veteran system really still "go play the other factions area"?

Afraid so. In all honesty, if the questing is boring for you, then the game probably is not going to be your cup of tea - there is a lot of questing with great stories, if that doesn't interest you then the game will likely feel sub par.

Can you play this without buying anything? I mean legitimately play, not pirate. I can't seem to find a way to do it.

looks like all thats available is the Tamriel Unlimited thing and that's $60 but there is no monthly fee?

Once you buy the game, yes you can legitemately play everything currently in game without paying a dime more. The box price includes everything that has released over the last year.
The exception to note is: Imperial race and Explorers Pack (play any race, any faction) but that's because Imperial was always part of the Imperial Edition and because the Explorers Pack was a Pre Order bonus - hence why they are extras to buy. But you do not need them.

Subscribing simply gives a 10% bonus on a few things along with crowns to buy stuff in crown store, but that bonus is irrelevent really.

There is no xp reductin for playing for free, there is no content lock out (though obviously future content will be DLC and you will pay for that, but you have 150+ hrs of gameplay for the average player with the game) there is no gear restrictions either.

The only thing that people may feel inclined to purchase will be xp boosts when they are released. But that is purely from player mentality of 'must get ahead asap' you do not need them to get to end game or progress beyond

I reinstalled it to give it a shot but its been 11 months since I've logged in. I can't even remember the basics on playing so I may have to restart.

Question- I reinstalled some add-ons, how do I move the windows? I have stuff in my way and can't remember how to move it.

But my most important question- have they finally added a broker, auction house or something that makes sense instead of having to join 4-5 trading guilds?

I know there is an addon called Azurah that can move most of the default UI, to get mouse cursor up, the easiest way is hit . (Period key)

Sort of, they do now have Guild Merchants that you can by items from other guilds, but to sell i believe you still have to be in a guild

Oh yeah? how do you find those? From what I can see there are only guild stores to buy from. I don't get why they don't add an auction house, it's really by far the weakest point in this game vs. all other MMO's I've played.

Its not very different than what I remember except it crashes a lot, about 6 times today, mostly when I alt tab to google something.

Sorry, yes the guild stores is what I meant, if you want to buy something.
If you want to sell, you would have to join a guild to do so, there are guilds specifically for trade/selling stuff too

As for the crashing, I had it once, when for some reason it hung while I was swiming in the water and hit my journal key
