Will it be a good MMO? I don't know. Never played one. Some people are positive about it, talking about the instanced realm combat and nice graphics.
Will it be a good elder scrolls experience? From what I've seen/heard, NO. Absolutely not. Not in a million years. Dumbed down, simplified, and generic doesn't even start to cover it.

If it succeeds it will be seen as a cash cow and rip even more resources away from their single player games in the future. I said I wanted it to fail IMMEDIATELY before it gets to that point.

The money is already spend. If it fails it will have a large impact on the company and future revenue. Meaning the next games will feel it with cutbacks and possible cancellation or selloffs.

I dont get how your logic can get anything positive out of it.

There where question like this already, and maybe just "spin" but they said its not the same team (resources) and also it will take nothing away from the next ES stand alone game. YES, it could be spin, but we are not talking EA, we are talking Beth here. I have no reason to think they are lying to me until they do. One can chose.. half full or half empty. I'm going Half full, life isnt much fun if your in the half empty crowd, but you may be disappointed less. Beth has released some stinkers, but not many, buggy, yes.... see it how you will.

Its my understanding its totally different teams, so manpower is no issue, cash on the other hand? But unless they are stupid ( beth seems to do well) budgets have been mapped for years. Win/fail of ESO will not impact the stand alone games at all.

I am rooting for it as I am enjoying it some, but $15 a month for something 99% of the existing MMORPG dont charge for is going to be a hard sell no matter how good or bad the game is. I really doubt if WOW came out today it would make it, but you have 5 million people with 5+ years of gaming in, they cant just let it go. I must say in the end $15 will kill it, nobody will pay that. many of us love the ES series and will invest for a few months, so it should launch ok, but thats it (opinion), it will loss subscribers quickly, and as its geared for P2P, it will be really hard to swap to a decent F2P model quickly. I hate to say it, but BETH is banking to hard on the fanbase to eat up anything ES, just wont happen at $15 a month.

Free to play games can be horrible. GW2 for example turned out to be a complete disaster due to lack of support. Bugs and exploit killed a huge part of playerbase. In the other end you end up with games that are more like pay to win.

So personally I prefer subscription.

Company finance is company finance. Then I dont care what teams work on what. It will hurt everyone if one part of the company flops. Specially so huge investments that MMOs are. Its income they expect to keep rolling back for years to come to repay the investment.

Beth is strong enough financially to survive a MMORPG flop just like Blizzard survived D3 failing and masses of people leaving WOW. And if they're not, then let them fail and have another company buy the assets. We could use a better engine than Gamebryo anyway. If Beth goes the way of Blizzard, then I simply will not buy any more of their games.

I don't have anything to add to the arguement, but I do wonder, can you call D3 a flop? I didn't buy, have no intentions of buying it.

But, no matter what problems it had, no matter how frustrated people got with it, it still sold 500 gazillion copies didn't it? I find it hard to believe they didn't make development costs back on it, at the very least.

Wow, I thought this was like years out from being released, like late 2015 at the earliest, this sounds like its headed for a spectacular failure. Unless they basically plan on releasing it and then build it up over time, but that just sounds like a recipe to fail like so many others did. That or the game they've had people trying out is just some very basic version just to test simple aspects and they've got a major overhaul of quests/story/etc ready.

I'm just worried that this has been sapping resources from ES6 or that this paired with say the id turmoil could put the company in bad financial straits and then they spinoff or get bought by Microsoft/EA/etc.

The beta definitely does not start until 6 PM Friday. You can download the client and/or patch up before then, but you can't log in until they open the gates.
