Test-drove the Lightning Lariat today.
It is the best EV I have ever driven. SCARY good! Quick review:
1. It looks REALLY good in-person. Aside from the grill, it could pass for a normal truck, and that's only if you bother to really look at the grill.
2. The frunk is awesome, although oddly not as huge as the pictures make it look haha. But I could definitely curl up inside of there & shut myself in lol.
3. The center console desk & 120V jack is really awesome if you work on the road. You can optionally get a hotspot with Ford Pass, so you can have dedicated Wi-fi as well.
4. The model I test-drove didn't have BlueCruise enabled, really wanted to try that. iirc it's tied to the app & this was just a demo model.
5. It's eerie to drive, in a good way. There's no shudder when you start. Zero vibration. Zoomed past 60mph on the merge ramp onto the highway & it felt like we were doing 30. It's like a giant floating skyscraper!
6. It feels like driving a Honda Fit. Incredibly nimble, easy to turn, easy to drive. It doesn't feel like a big truck at all, like just not at all! I couldn't believe how well it drove, it was something else! Gave me a big smile on my face!
7. The tailgate was powered, it was crazy to see it raise on its own. Plus had all of the nifty stuff like the pop-down step & raise-up arm-grip to get into the trunk.
8. Outlets EVERYWHERE! 20A in the frunk! Madness! This would be so much fun to go "glamping" in.
9. I wish it had bigger battery options available, but for a lot of people, 230 to 300 is fine. Supposedly towing cuts 230
down to 100 tho.
Bit of background:
1. I love EV's. Huge Tesla fanboy. Driven just about everything on the market. My reservation is for a 500-mile Cybertruck for the range.
2. As a Mustang owner, I didn't care for the aesthetics of the Mach-E as a Mustang, but after test-driving it not too long ago, I was sold. Better than Tesla imo...more creature comforts, far less spartan, etc.
3. Having driven the F-150 EV, I like it even
better than the Mach-E. The Lightning is my Top Dog for EV's at the moment. I don't see anything topping it, at least until the Cybertruck comes out. The crabwalk on the Hummer is pretty cool, but that's like $112k+ or like $235k at auction lol.
It's funny, because on the surface, it's just an F-150 pickup truck. Standard short bed, crew cab, etc. - looks like every other truck on the road. But it left me with a HUGE smile on my face! It was just AWESOME! Very much looking forward to the Cybertruck, but tbh, if this had a bigger battery option, I'd be tempted!
Side note, there may be a Ranger & Maverick Lightning available soon!
The smaller siblings of Ford's pickup family might soon be battery-powered.
