Given our northern climate, I don't usually scale back crunching until May/June and resume sometime in Sept/Oct. The "waste" heat produced definitely comes in handy helping keep our house warm.

I cannot recall a time when the electric bill was below $300. I don't run the heat, the teen moved out and boxes keep folding. I'm considering a move to SSD drives; have two of them ready for install as well as moving everything to 55nm or 45nm when available. As the farm grows it's nice to make it green.

Keep folding,

Gravity

My bill isnt so bad. I crunch with 4 rigs and have the 5th for a family work PC so, it's on once in a while. Still, I watch and make sure everything is in check.

I used to do the same thing when I was in college. My main pc, which I had on a permanent overclock, ran 24/7 and was enough to keep the small dorm I had from getting too cold. I wouldn't do that in the summer, though.

I'm only doing DC on a single machine, as the electrical costs are just too high for me now.. what with home improvements and me getting married in just a couple weeks.

I'm going to miss free electricity and high bandwidth Internet... a couple of the advantages of a university dormitory.

Hopefully at least one of the several on-site job interviews I have coming up will land me something out of college. Then maybe I can continue to burn money on my computer hobby, lol.

Started F@H back up with my old team (#13285 - The Folding Wolves) after ~ 1 year hiatus due to being a cheap arse and not replacing an old Antec PSU (high load = random reboots). Finally broke down and bought a Corsair TX 650W

I'm amazed at how much F@H has advanced in the past year or so. Running the GPU2 client on my HD3850 is easy as pie and processes very quickly. Now if only I could run a pair of 9600GSOs instead... probably the most efficient way to get ~10000+ PPD.

Welcome back to F@H. Glad to gear that you picked it up again. Hope you land that new job and may your hobby build!

As for the advancement of the latest clients that now have dominated the cpu and gpu era, it is incredible how far they have come.

ATi cards do ok with the Gpu WU's ( don't know just yet on the latest WU 5902's ) but Nvidia so far has the edge when it comes to folding.

Good luck to you and again welcome back to folding@home!

I don't think they released an equivalent to the 59xx series on ATI (yet?)
I looked at fah and didn't see a similar 'introduction' post in the ATI section.

Can I add to the Welcome!
