This new game from Stardock looks promising.

The vids in this link gave me problems part way through, but I saw enough to grab my curiosity.

I am in the Beta. It is still pretty buggy, but hopefully that gets worked out over the next few months.

Well, it looks cool. I'm trying not to hold too much of the Demigod fiasco against Stardock. Demigod could have been awesome but GPG basically launched a turd and gave up on it. Stardock picked up the slack, which is noble of them, but someone somewhere should have noticed that the game was completely broken out of the box.

I'll wait for the reviews and see how well QC does their job. That and since Impulse usually ends up having deep sales after a few months, I can hold off until the price comes way down. Too bad it's not a Steam game.

I think this is going to be a must get game for me. I like turn based games, and loved Master of Magic. I thought Galactic Civilizations 2 was a well made game, so hopefully this game will be just as good or better.

It does look a bit like a spiritual successor to Master of Magic, which is a great thing, imo.

I'm looking at preordering now... I'd imagine I'm out of luck for a coupon at this point.

I think they announced late august last week. They were debating between late summer or winter (they claimed there are too many games being released in the fall to have an effective fall release date).

Here Brad Wardell (the CEO of Stardock) states that they are planning for an August 24th release. If they miss that, it won't be released until the second week of February. The reason for the large delay is that they won't be able to reserve a slot in retail chains until that time if they miss the first reserved slot.

Thanks for the links. Assuming it's released in working condition, I'm definitely buying.

Apparently they think the AI is the big question wrt the Aug 24 date.

To those in the beta, does the analogy master of orion -> sins of a solar empire : master of magic -> elemental hold true? I really can't tell at all what the game play is like from just the screen shots they have released.

No, Galactic Civilization is the Stardock game that is similar to Master of Orion. Sins was just published by them, not developed.

It is a very early beta, and only the cloth map view is available. Right now, it is pretty unstable and hard to play. Not much in the way of gameplay has been put in, right now it is mostly just stability testing. I couldn't tell you much about what the final product should look like.

I can say that it has city building, and heros that gain levels, along with army building and diplomacy. It is very early in this though, so much of it is only partially implemented.

I love Stardock which is a big part of why I am interested. I think End of Year is probably realistic from what I am hearing. But, they do a good job of added tons of patches and free content ( in between retail expansions ).

As I stated, if it isn't released by August 24th, it won't come out until the second week of February at the earliest. That is because that is their next available slot for retail availability.

They are ahead of schedule so far. I can't tell you much about the game, as I have an issue where it will hang at startup, and it isn't a common issue so it has yet to get fixed.
