I need to make it impossible for high school kids to use im on the school's computers and i dont know how. they are running windows 95. anything i can do to only elimate the aim permanently but leave the computers otherwise for internet access and research? thanks.
i have regcleaned the machines a lot. possibly some sneaky registry things?

Block the AIM servers (or better yet, all of .aol.com because they can still use aim express) at the server using proxy. If you're not using a proxy server with a porno filter, you should be, otherwise you can expect some angry parents when little Johnny comes home talking about all the porn he saw at school.

Ill leave the pr0n thing alone on this one. I think, if you block the ip addresses of AOL's login server you would also block aim express. But Im not sure. That is definitely the best way to do it, nothing good on aol anyhow.

This could be kind of a roundabout way to solve your problem, but probably the simplest way to go unless you want to mess with proxys etc.

ZoneAlarm Pro has password protection, so unless you enter a password you cannot change the access privileges of any program wanting to access your Local Network or the Internet. I seem to remember that you could also deny access to certain URLs from ZoneAlarm Pro.

The important thing to remember is that you need to BUY the Pro version, the free version does not have password protection.

<EDIT>Oh, in case you did not know, ZoneAlarm is a software firewall for Win9x/2k/XP.
Plus, after I reread your post again, it seemed like a software firewall could be ideal for you since you could give access rights to the browser only and stop kids from using anything else.</EDIT>
