Yeah, I have an elliptical. Honestly it's my favorite indoor cardio machine - it will kick your rear, but also keeps you in great shape and is not too bad on the joints. I have a trick knee and jogging will make it give out after a quarter mile, but I can go for an hour on my elliptical with no problem. I have a ProForm SpaceSaver model:

It's a bit wobbly, so put it on a hard surface or mat if you're on carpet, but it's nice because I can shove it in the corner to free up space when I'm done. There are 2 problems that prevent most people from either using it or getting the most out of it:
1. Huge, ridiculous goals
2. Poor diet
Don't do an hour a day. Don't do 30 minutes a day. Commit to 15 minutes a day - if you feel like doing more, great, but that way it's not such a barrier on days you don't feel good. We all get really super excited when a new toy comes in, then after a few days the emotional motivation wears off and your commitment for 45 minutes a day suddenly disappears.
That and people still eat like crap, and food = fatness or non-fatness. Unless you use the elliptical for like 2 hours a day and burn off all that junk food you ate, you have to eat right on a consistent basis. There's some good information here on food for getting in shape:

So pretty much, commit to 10 or 15 or even 5 minutes a day and DO THAT NO MATTER WHAT, and eat decently well. That's all. Also put it in front of a TV, because it gets really boring
