I don't think I've even made 30m, let alone spend it on a ship. I need to keep grinding though, I want one of those corvettes when they first come out.
Is anything besides hunting and trading really profitable? I've got 38 tons of rares if anyone wants to take them.

Ugh, this sucks. I can't seem to make 1 fricking credit, let alone a few hundred so I can buy a discovery sensor and try some exploring. Every goddamn port I go to there's no missions I can do. I finally found one, and I need to deliver 4 animal meat to them. Well, I have to buy the damn things first (over 1,000 CR a piece) and even then it's only for reputation. Which is ok I guess, cause apparently that can get me better missions, but I have no idea how I'll get that much money. I'm sitting here at Aristotle Gateway on Yakabugai wondering what to do.

At least I finally stopped overshooting my destination while in supercruise. LOL. God I suck.

If you'd read this thread, you'd see perfectly good advice on how to make money. We've taken the time to type it out. Take the time to read it.

Missions are not for money. They're for faction and political power gains.

If you want to make money, go bounty hunting (wanted targets). You can start at nav beacons or move on to resource extraction sites at ringed planets.

LOL I was there twice today :awe:
I was going through pretty much the same thing. I was doing trading missions and traded my way to 60k credits only to make a series of mistakes (long story short, I lost pretty much all credits trying to do a mission that involved making jumps that my engine couldn't with cargo aboard) and then I made 150k in a few hours.

Go to a federation system, preferably one where a nav beacon or resource location is fairly close to a federation base. Hang around the navigation beacon and just scan ships in the area and watch for the wanted ones (just watch the screen for relevant info). Kill the bastards or attack ones that are already fighting someone else.Wanted ships are constantly entering the area, keep taking them out and when you took damage, jump back to a station for repairs and to claim bounties then head back to the nav beacon for more. You claim the bounties by selecting contacts/local security office. Your status with the federation will improve as you keep killing the wanted ships.

So... I finally traded in my cobra for a type-6. Fuck. Me. Why am I just now figuring out trading? Post nerf!! I went from 1.2m credits after a week of grinding bounties, to 4.5MILLION IN 4 HOURS. FUCK.

if only I had known or started at release... I still think anaconda is way out of my league. Going to try to get the next size hauler and just get an insanely tricked out cobra and enough cash to rebuy 500 times.

Oh and I figured out how to use the map better and about factions...when they implement better group shit I am so going to paint the galaxy red...FOR THE EMPIRE!

I'll probably mostly just kill feds...leave independents be. I don't want to have a 90mil bounty EVERYWHERE...

Yeah, trading is the most lucrative way to make money.

But it's also the fastest track to suicide-by-boredom.

I'll challenge you to a PVP tomorrow m8. I swar on me mum Ill fyt u
That's an idea, an arena of sorts where friends can fight without losing their ships. I mean, insurance isn't that much, but it's a thought.

Also, maybe we could put together a list of CMDR names? I know you guys have posted before, but I have a horrible memory and new members are comin in fairly often.

Hmmm. That sounds doable. I only have the default Sidewinder ship and weapons, do you think that'll be enough for a few kills at least, until I can upgrade weapons?

Also, sorry if this is a stupid question, but what's a nav beacon? Maybe I already know it and don't realize it, but I'm not sure what that is.

Yes. The game scales opponents according to your combat rank.

You mean other human players? I know I see all the different kinds of NPC levels.

NPC ship sizes.

A player just starting out with no combat rank is going to see mostly other sidewinders and eagles with some slightly bigger ships thrown in every once in a while with the biggest ships pretty rarely.

As your combat rank goes up, you start seeing bigger ships more often.

The combat rank of those NPC ships will vary through all available ranks, yes.

My friends and I have tested this extensively with those of us who are low rank along side those of us who are high rank. As an example, someone with a high rank at a nav beacon will see the sorts of ships that they'd normally see. When someone else joins the nav beacon instance with a lower rank, the ships that spawn are lowered to that lower player's rank. The larger size and more difficult ships will stop spawning as much. The game somehow takes into account the rank of everyone at a location and tailors NPC enemies to suit.

My plan is to trade my way up to the big ships and amass plenty of spending money then buy and outfit a few of the smaller ships to play around with. Combat can be fun but I'd rather get the whole worrying about money out of the way first.

A nav beacon is basically just a rally point in a system, near the main star. If the system is inhabited (as in, it has starports and such) it will have a nav beacon 99% of the time.

People go to nav beacons to bounty hunt. There is nothing there but open space so less risk of running into an asteroid, and there is a moderate influx of NPC's passing through so you just scan them to see if they are wanted.

I tend to bounty hunt in Solo mode because I hate getting kills sniped from me, especially anacondas. If I don't care so much about earning money when I fight I just wait for other CMDR's to hit one of the police and then take them out like a dick

You're horrible! :awe: I've never been killed for that by a CMDR, though I did have one ask me if my bounty was just from hitting a cop.

You can see how much their bounty is (in the system where they come up as wanted) in the left hand side, no need to ask. If it's 200-600 credit bounty you know they just did some friendly fire. If you read the news at popular systems like Erevate and Lave some people have bounties of 50 million and stuff, probably going to need a few anaconda's to take those guys out though.

I've been pirating other players which is SO MUCH FUN. I don't get how some people just automatically do stupid crap that gets them killed though. I did it for a few hours the other day in a decked out cobra for shits, I had these three scenarios:

Scen1) Interdict player. I message the player "Please standby for scan, if you attempt to flee you will be destroyed". Scan completes, players cargo hold is empty. "No cargo, you're free to go CMDR."

Scen2) Interdict player. I type "Please standby for scan, if you..." player immediately opens fire on my decked out cobra in a sidewinder or hauler. Player gets destroyed without saying a word between us.

Scen3) Interdict player. "Greetings CMDR, please standby for cargo scan, if you flee you will be destroyed." Scan complete. Player is carrying cargo. "CMDR, I am going to need (%) of your goods, thank you". Player ejects cargo, and I let him leave.

It's a lot of fun, but I wish more players fell into the cooperative playstyle. I ended up having to blow 90% of them up. They either attacked me right when we interdicted or they tried to flee. :3

I'm currently searching for an active Empire group to wreak havoc on federal systems, but I am doing some more research prior to if this is even worth it right now. I dont want to be wanted in 50% of the universe for no gain (like empire likes me a lot for killing feds or w/e). I just want to flip systems over to the empire. Hopefully ones with rare commodities so they are now Empire commodities

I'll admit, the only time I've been caught with cargo (my first day) I tried to run, got my thrusters taken out, and cargo stolen.

To flip systems you will either need a lot of people or to take advantage of instability already in place. Also, if we meet in a conflict zone I hope you won't take it personally if I end up killing you. :awe:

Speaking of combat, I need to practice FA off flying. Never done it.

I've pressed 23k keys in one day because of elite dangerous and all the typing in this forum. My wasd key have nearly 55k presses in just 2 weeks.
I passed 1.5m total a while back.

Flipping systems seems to be quite the daunting task. There were some streamers, a dozen of them working together on one system, that worked for more than a week doing missions constantly and couldn't get the system control % to go up much at all.

I wanted to do this, but I think I'll hold off on even bothering until the mechanic gets reviewed. I don't know if it's broken or if it's supposed to be ridiculously difficult, but right now it doesn't seem like it's worth the time.

Hunting bounties for the time being, I spent quite a bit upgrading my sidey. First two I did were the hull and propulsion. I need to find a more convenient nav beacon & station combo, with less commute and a full hub rather than the limited station I now collect bounties at.

I play solo, online there is way too much competition for the targets, it's like steaks dropped into a pool of piranhas :awe:

It feels like there is some difficulty scaling, I had some epic encounters and limped back to a station with 5% left to collect 300k worth of bounties. I'm
only mostly harmless lol
