Uh, no one is ever going to visit all 400,000,000,000 systems. Even if you played 24/7 and could somehow go to a different system every second it would still take thousands of years of continuous play. The number is meaningless.

I personally feel that Elite is only half finished. I was excited for the offline single player and that ended up getting scrapped a month before release. Right now the flight and combat is mostly solid, but the actual game itself has little to no depth.

I also don't get why people feel compelled to only like either SC or ED. They're both going to be good IMHO, they just have different aims within the same genre.

Forums are very helpful too. The combat tutorials aren't bad with familiarizing yourself with the basics of flight.

Also, newest Elite newsletter is out, had an excellent story on player-driven piracy, worth a read

Great question. Been seeing lots of recommendation of Saitek X52 Pro - just ordered one myself should arrive by Monday. Will review for this game soon.

This game screams for a decent Joystick and/or HOTAS setup. Lots of Youtube vids already posted - which is why I chose the X52 Pro.

That's a great statement and should be applied to many of the threads dealing with game and system wars I've seen over recent years.

In this case, we are comparing a game that is already out with another than won't ship for at least a year. ED is procedurally generated and SC will be hand crafted. ED is meant to be more MMOish, whereas SC is meant to be more like Wing Commander/Freelancer. Also, outside of fighter combat, no one has any real idea what SC will ultimately play like.

We have another year to scrap together $60 for SC. No reason not to enjoy both.

I use the Saitek X-55 Rhino and absolutely love it. It seems well supported by both Elite Dangerous as well as SC. I definitely use ALL of the inputs for Elite.

This. Very happy time to be a space sim fan. Now if only they would come out with an Independence War 3 and Freespace 3, I'd be in gaming nirvana.

What makes me laugh is that SC is being made by a person who has a long, LONG history of hamming up what a game is "going to be" and then releasing something objectively and significantly worse than what was billed. Chris Roberts is the text book embodiment of why hype is B.S. Combined with his lying and thieving, I have no real hope for SC. It's sad to see people defend it because they have a financial stake in it or because they bought into the hype.

The system pip effect on shields are getting normalized in Elite!

TLDR: Some guys tested the effects of pips on shield performance and found that performance scales exponentially instead of linearly per pip. The rest of the ship systems like engines and guns scales linearly. They posted a lot of good information on Reddit and the game forum. Frontier, being an awesome company, listened! They did their own testing to confirm and are going to change the way system pips affect shield performance to match.

I'm not nearly good enough to fly with flight assist off 100% of the time, but there are some pilots who fly exclusively with it turned off. Crazy!

I'm good through minor firefights with FA off, it gets trickier when you throw asteroids into the mix though Same deal with it and SC with FA off, I can keep track of where I am and general heading, but I cant keep track of that many objects...Isinona has a video of him bounty hunting a player in the small Beta asteroid test belt...he's good.
