Can someone recommend key bindings for a keyboard and mouse setup. I just got this game a few days ago on a steam sale.

I left mine default but unbound "eject all" and switched roll from mouse to "A" and "D" and yaw from "A" and "D" to mouse.

I've seen a few people say using keyboard and mouse sucks shit but I really don't see any issues with it. I have no desire to move to a joystick (I have a HOTAS setup) and lose precision aiming.

Anyway, here are some key bindings I did differently than the default and I like it WAY better. The difference is like night and day IMO.

W: Thrust up
S: Thrust down
A: Thrust left
D : Thrust right
Mouse wheel: 10% throttle increase/decrease. Incremental mode.
Mouse x-axis: Yaw
Q: Roll left
E: Roll right
Supercruise: F
Hyperspace: R

The expansion is utterly amazing.

You think so? I've been pretty underwhelmed. After driving around for 20 minutes I was bored with that, then I flew around like I used to do and dropped in on another random planet and it had already lost its novelty. I'm struggling here, though I had already put E down because I was bored with it and maybe Horizons doesn't yet offer enough for someone like me.

I liked Elite, but kind of sucks having to drop another $60. Do you guys think there is content enough to justify the full game price?

Ye I do. Do you think SC will be any better? I dont.

Lots of extra stuff will also come in this season, multicrew, small fighters etc.

I just want a Panther Clipper ^^

You can always wait till it gets discounted. It usually does after a while.

There will be lots added throughout the year, so its just not Horizons in todays edition.

Really struggling to decide on purchasing the Corvette or Cutter. I got to play the Beta and A-Class both of them (90% discount!).

The Corvette has incredible turning speed, DPS, and only needs 1 heat-sink per C7 SCB. It is the ultimate stand-your-ground fighting vessel and is incredibly dangerous to try to kill on your own. The Cutter has the highest mass-lock and can boost to 350 m/s fully armed. It is absolutely the best pirate vessel and can easily fight a Corvette. It can always boost away from the Anaconda/Corvette which is essential for its survival.

The Cutter needs 2 heatsinks to use a C8 SCB. It will successfully interdict, mass-lock, and annihilate any ship that can't boost to 400+ m/s. Imo, the Cutter is easily the scariest game in the ship. It can't pitch nearly as fast as the Anaconda and Corvette, but it has much more powerful thrusters and drifts a lot to always keep close to the target. With its high mass, speed, and shields, the Cutter is the ultimate ramming vessel. It can nearly take out a Corvette's shields with a well aimed hit.

Overall, both new end-game ships are the top of their class in the two facets of combat they represent.

I also consider top speed and mass lock = survivability. The Cutter easily escapes any situation except against another Cutter. The same cannot be said for a fleeing Corvette.

2 Cutters vs 1 Corvette = Corvette Death. 2 Corvettes vs 1 Cutter = Cutter easily high waking and surviving.

I am back in my FDL since I cannot afford anything beyond a D-class Corvette or Cutter after selling ALL assets to kit one out... The 2.0 update buffed the Powerplant and pitch. I now have 1k shields and an SCB active while hardpoints deployed. The FDL doesn't require a heatsink to activate its C4 SCB's.

I am amazed at how terrible the Python has become in combat. It overheats like mad, only has 4 utility mounts vs the FDL's 6, and has nowhere near the Shield strength. I am always telling CMDRs to get a D-class Anaconda instead of an A-class Python just to be more effective utilizing SCB's and heatsinks.

I feel like far too many ships need to make too many sacrifices regarding internal compartments and utility mounts. I also recommend making your own bindings for a controller/joystick. It takes many hours of testing to get an efficient setup. I love my Xbox controller's preset and it has many key combos.

Gonna go exploring with a friend. There is a ~9.7g planet to land on which sounds like a terrifying challenge when thousands of light-years from a station. There are so many planets with fascinating landmarks such as Monoliths, sheer drops, massive craters, and wacky orbits. I want to try landing on the planet that is so close to its star, that a CMDR requires activating heat sinks just to land and take off. My GPU is taxed 100% when on a planet and driving around. Still getting FPS above 50 at least.

Overall, I really like the direction E: D is heading and will be playing this game for a long time. I want to get another 290 for this game, but am really unsure if CFX actually works. The annoying lag on Open Play when many CMDRs are in supercruise in the same system will make a powerful CPU+GPU completely irrelevant.

I hope they add the co-pilot update along with fighter bays really soon!

Honestly the Cutter is an incredible trader. ~320m to outfit IIRC and 728 cargo. :O

I'm going along in my tradeconda, can't wait to make it a fighting anaconda.

I saw the news the other day. I'd pay 45 for the expansion now if I had time for games atm, but by the time I get back around to it, it'll be cheaper. So I'll wait til it's cheaper . Looks interesting.

All my talk of not paying for Horizons and I totally forgot that I have premium beta, which means I already have the lifetime expansion pass lol.

Tried the buggy on a few planet surfaces. Not interesting at all, not any fun either. As of now I have zero desire to visit any planet surface in Elite, just doesn't add anything meaningful to the game IMHO. As far as a I'm concerned it was a gigantic waste of developer time and resources.

The Cutter and Corvette are cool, but screw the rank up grind for either of them. Effectively kills my desire to work towards either ship.

I do not like FD's push for "new content" when there's so much that still needs fixing with the base game. They nailed down making flying in space fun with the base game... and that's it. The ocean keeps getting wider but it's still an inch deep.

I was able to play the game on a laptop that had an i7 3630 (2.4GHz), 8GB RAM and a GTX 635M. Everything is on low, but it is playable at 1080P.

I recently kitted out my Tradeconda for PvE farming. I was able to compare this to an A-class Corvette during the Beta. The Corvette definitely kills ships faster, but cannot do so for great lengths of time. My B-Class Battleconda with its 2 C3 G Pulse, 2 C2 G Pulse and 2 C3 F Pulse, 2 C1 F Pulse kills a powerplant with incredible speed while being able to have 4 pips to shields all the time.

It can go for hours at a Haz Res racking up tens of millions of credits without needing a single SCB or rearm. C7 Bi-Weave + 7 Shield boosters and a KWS meant that shield strength is never a problem. I gave it 3 C4 Shield Cell Banks which allows no heat sinks to activate 1 at a time.

edit: Game is a stutterfest on my GT 650M 1 GB. FPS varies immensely and performance does not improve going from 1080p to 720p at all! This game definitely needs a decent GPU for a consistent framerate, The game streams through steam really well fortunately. Anyone with a Desktop + a laptop/tablet can stream this game very easily.

Is that with an 8A Distributor? I have a 8B Distributor and if I go all Pulse it will drain the capacitor in no time, and that's with 4 pips to weapons.

I've got the itch to take my trading Anaconda into a Haz Res, but can't decide on the weapon loadout. Tried all pulses but even with only 4 large pulse, the 8B distributor just can't keep up. Before logging off for the night I switched to 1 huge cannon, 3 large gimballed pulse, 2 medium gimballed pulse, and 2 small cannons. We'll see how well this does. Not entirely sure what to do with those two small hardpoints. Was thinking about putting turrets on them to deal with annoying little ships that aren't worth turning for.

I wish sites like coriolis or ed shipyard could show you how long your weapon config would be able to fire with the equipped distributor...

I so want to get into this game, but I really don't know what I'm supposed to do in this. I saw a couple of videos on youtube and it's just people visiting random planets and exploration. And I'm sure therein lies the novelty. Just wanted to ask if there is something like a single player campaign in it somewhere.
