Anandtech, why did you start such a thing?

Those that are, are above us measly members.

(No, I do not mean this literally. I know of some senior members striving to be elite.)

I fully respect what AT deems to be elite.

There are kids on this forum. They seem to think

it means something.




It is my opinion that this status be removed.

Why? There is NO better than someone else

because of opinion. You nominate people to elite

based on so.

AT tries to lock, and delete threads based on morality,
and if it could be deemed public.

That is their right. It is a privately owned forum.

I agree with you, LOB. I personally spend a lot of time on IRC, and I generally feel better speaking to &quot;normal people&quot; instead of the channel owners/ops who are mostly lurking. I like down to earth people. I'm not saying that many of the elite's aren't nice, but I always have a certain attitude inside me saying &quot;hey, they think they're so cool&quot;, I think that subconciously.

I think they should hand out the title MUCH more freely. I wouldn't mind seeing you with it for example, lots of people know you, you've posted lots, and THAT is what newbies should be able to read from a special Title, that this person can be trusted and that he has some brains.

the title really does nothing that making senior members with lots of posts make flaming-posts asking why they aren't elite when they've got 2-3 times more posts than some elite's, and making people fight.

BUT.....the reason they do it is because she's a nice and articulate (spelling?) person, who've been a good person to talk to, and gives nice answers. just let it pass by you and think &quot;oh well, I don't need to suck up to WW, but I'll just be nice to her and let people write what they want &quot;. you won't get anywhere with thinking that she's annoying, in face she's very polite, will answer an email if you've got a question, and so on, so please don't stay at this opinion....force yourself to think something else

To me, the title means that the member in question has been recognized for putting some decent thought into their posts. Also, that they don't cause trouble for the mods. For example...Not to pick on xero, 'cause he's damned funny at times, but repeatedly posting drug topics is not winning him points with the mods. They've made it clear it's not welcome here.

Other than that, the title is pretty meaningless.

Prodigy: In defense of shadow, he never says that he finds WW annoying, only that he does not worship the keyboard she types on. Further, I don't think he should edit his post for his own sake -- if people fly off the handle for something like that then they need to step away from their computers for awhile.

On topic: The Elite member badge is somewhat silly to me, and people tend to place too much emphasis on titles here anyway. Simply because someone is a junior member does not immediately nullify their opinion, as I have seen intimated here on more than a few occasions. If someone spends every waking hour patrolling the forums, it does not make their opinions any more intelligent than someone who wanders in here on occasion. As they say, opinions are like a certain part of your anatomy -- everyone has one.

Well, I think the problem is that some of the Senior Members who never advance are definately eligable to be Elite Members based on their knowledge. I know I am one of those. I don't really care if I get &quot;Elite&quot; Status, I don't need to prove it. Some of these people want it known. At the bottom of it all is a judgement of personality. Many of us don't have the right stuff (According to their expectations, whatever they may be).

I don't think what Shadow has written deserves that he &quot;get flamed to death&quot;. He simply stated that he does not share the view of some members and did not use hyperbole or abusive language. I welcome such a moderate tone in expressing dissenting views at personal risk. Anandtech is enriched by diversity of opinions, expertise and experience, both in technical and human matters. Not everyone thinks alike or appreciates the same things (hey, some of you like big butts ). But when opinions are expressed politely, without intent to hurt someone or spread hate, they should be discussed in such a manner as to enrich everyone.

And you can take this from someone who has turned on the plasma torch on another who tried to hurt his friend WombatWoman, a flossie would not hesitate to do so again if circumstances warranted it. As far as I am concerned, however, all is quiet on the Western Front.

but just to keep things on the straight and narrow i do not find her annoying in the least, she strikes me as you describe her, and as most everyone here would describe her. it's just that i don't &quot;see&quot; her being what everyone &quot;sees&quot; her as being. i have a different perspective and it just really sticks out like a sore thumb from here, it just has been something that has bugged me for a while, dat's about it.
