ELITEGROUP K7S5A Hard Drive

Im putting together a budget PC for the niece with the K7S5A motherboard and it won't recognize the Primary master drive. I picks up the primary slave drive which is cdrw and dvd drive. Does it mean that the headers could be wrong or the ide slot on the board. Any suggestions would be appreciated

i have that board in my "server" box and its never had a problem finding drives... that is unless it was a crap drive...

but to clarify things.... your Primary IDE channel WILL recognize the Slave device but not the Master correct? and the Secondary Channel will find everything... if thats teh case tehn just put it on the second channel and setup your bios to boot off that.... it still works...

what make disk? wd's are picky, have to set the jumper to 'master with slave', 'just master' is different...

also, is bios set to auto? go into bios and hit enter on the master and see if it sees it...

or, just plug in the primary and see what u get...

using old cables? i have grief on my k7s5a's because i've moved somany parts through them thati've nicked up the cables...

or, maybe your psu is weak and can't run all the devices u have...

in other words, there's a lot of things it can be...

I have 2 WD, one as master and one as slave. I even tried one just as master. I changed the cables, but I have another set and will try again. I will also double check to make sure i have the clear cmos on the 2 and 3 pin. Im not sure what the power supply is. Yes it is on auto select, and it says no device installed..
