I saw PC3200 memory in a website not long ago. They stress the fact that the chips are Elixir by Nanya..... Does anyone have any experience with this memory? Is it Nany chips on third party board? Is the board also a Nanya board? How would you rate it??

Thanks

Alex

I wouldnt touch that crap. Buy buffalo memory. It couldnt be much more expensive and its great stuff even for non overclockers.

Is it really that bad? Even running at CL3 or 2.5? I thought it should be better that the cheapest generic memory...

stay away from it,like others said it's pure crap.

You''ll probably end up returning it so you might as well buy good stuff to start with.

ALL the people suggesting the same should lead me to something: These folks can't be wrong

What would be the brand you would suggest for an upgrade in a budget? No overclocking needed, just sure that it can run at DDR400 stable, even at relaxed timings (CL 2.5 or even 3) What do you suggest?

Thanks

Alex

Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, or Mushkin. All four companies I trust and make some of the nicer products. Personally, if you don't want to overclock or set low timings, like CL 2 or 2.5, get Crucial. If you want some of the best stuff on CL 2 speeds, get Corsair. Kingston lies inbetween those two.

With Mushkin, it all depends which one you get since they have a wide range, but any solution from them will be pretty nice too, but their high end will be the most expensive, right up there with Corsair.

I think the full phrase (as far as I know) is, "A smart man learns from his mistakes. A wise man learns from others mistakes."

You are correct, but in this case NO one made a mistake by choosing their memory.... so I learn from their experience of success

I have narrowed the choice to the buffalo 2.5CAS or the centon. I had centon in the past for DDR 2100 and it works fine. I saw that newegg.com also has "kingmax"..... comments about kingmax?

Crucial PC3200, great if you don't plan on doing any heavy overclocking.

Kingston Hyper-X, Corsair XMS, Mushkin Level 2 and OCZ Gold if you want top notch ram for the $$$.

I would avoid brands like Elixir and Geil.

You have no idea my friend how close I was to get the Geil memory...... In the end, I was staring at the screen deciding between Geil, Buffalo and Centon (good experiences with centon in the past). All of them CAS 2.5. I got buffalo, and I am glad I did.

Thanks again

Crucial and Samsung are two of my favorite memory manufacturers. The quality is very good, and the prices are reasonable.

some dells came with nanya.

if its elixer on real pcb, its decent. they dont work well in dual channel from whati've read but other than that its good. elixer pcb with nanya chips has a sticker that says elixer with timings and such on it.

for generic i recommend Samsung or SpecTek. i've never a problem with either of those. SpecTek is made by Crucial/Micron so it's good generic memory. and the Samsung is fine too.. I've had some of that in my own personal PC's.. no issues!
