Remember when Trump offered $1 million if Elizabeth Warren took a DNA test?

https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2018/07/06/trump-warren-dna/

Well guess who took a DNA test?

https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/15/politics/elizabeth-warren-dna-test-native-american/index.html

This morning Trump denied he ever said it while departing to visit hurricane damage in Florida.

Um, the article is clear that Trump was fantasizing that he would make an offer if he was in a debate with her. Trump is a liar, but apparently, not about this.

Apparently the Cherokee nation is upset at Elizabeth Warren. Perhaps they should get with the 21st century. We live in an era where we are what we believe are. If gender fluidity is real then surely race fluidity is as well. This is not cultural appropriation at all. If one truly believes one is Native American, one is already part of that culture and cannot appropriate it. I need to find the nearest cultural studies journal to publish this hypothesis...

"A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship," Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. said in a statement. "Current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person’s ancestors were indigenous to North or South America."

Indeed, the genetic analysis report released by Warren concedes that because there are not samples available from many North American groups, the senator's DNA was compared against samples from Mexico, Peru and Colombia. Most Native American groups in the U.S. have declined to participate in recent genetic studies, the report said.

In addition to the lack of specificity and the fact that DNA tests do not meet the existing legal standards set by the tribal nations to determine citizenship, Hoskin Jr. said that using "a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong."

"It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven," he said. "Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage."

My 19yo tries to keep up with gender stuff in college. She was telling me about a white girl who identified as black / African American. So yes, race is fluid now also...

You're correct but he should still pay the $1mil since it is charity and he has soooo much money from all of the tax dodges.

In another real stemwinder of a speech straight from our president’s normal brain, Donald Trump on Thursday said that if he were to face off with Elizabeth Warren in a debate, he would offer to pay $1 million to charity if she took a DNA test to prove she has Native American heritage.

“I will give you a million dollars to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian,” he said at a rally in Montana, fantasizing about what he might say to Warren in a debate. “I have a feeling she will say no.”

The only reason Trump is bringing up Warren’s heritage is because of lingering unfounded accusations that she claimed minority Native American status to take advantage of affirmative action and further her career.

Surprising that she played right into Trump’s Kobayashi Maru.

This is playing out like an own goal by Warren...I guess she should've ignored Trump and not dignified him with a response at all...or at LEAST run your statement by tribal leaders and geneticists and clarify that you are not claiming tribal membership or any direct lineage, just that the stories you were told by your mom, "mawmaw and pawpaw" likely had some truth.

Now she'll have to bend over backwards again and prove being a reasonable doubt that she never benefitted from any affirmative action based on her heritage.

There were articles run about her not benefitting on her alleged heritage.

100% with you here. The problem is that Trump's unfounded accusations resonate strongly with a whole bunch of people.

this:

she claimed minority Native American status to take advantage of affirmative action and further her career.

That's not what he said:

"The only reason Trump is bringing up Warren’s heritage is because of lingering unfounded accusations that she claimed minority Native American status to take advantage of affirmative action and further her career"

You left out the first part of the sentence when I qualified these accusations as lingering and unfounded, which first emerged when she ran against Scott Brown, so I am not sure what you are asking.

People are trying to make sense of the silliness of her identifying as one when she clearly isn't Native American in any meaningful way. Was it to garner sympathy? Career prospects? Or was she really that goofy? What person would identify with the racial group that their parents say they have a little itty bit in them and clearly isn't a part of their appearance or upbringing? I think it's a better question than what Warren posed.

"As a kid, I never asked my mom about documentation when she talked about our Native American heritage," Warren said in a 2012 campaign ad. "What kid would?

Christ, I give up. You're stuck in a loop. You flip-flop between implying that she should have done more in order to present as a Genuine Bonafide Native American, I ask why do you feel it matters that she do such things, then your next type of response has consistently been to answer a question with a question despite the fact that I'm asking you for your opinion.

Tell me how national security and border security affect my life other than the first raising my taxes and the second being a pain in the ass?

She took a DNA test that appears to be completely invalid. She should've let this whole thing die years ago. It looks like she got caught in her own troll trap this time. Doesn't matter as nothing will come of it.

This all boils down to party politics. The faithful (generically speaking) will believe whatever someone on their team says and excoriate those on the other team for daring to criticize one of their own. Rah.

Let it die with perpetual Pocahontas stuff being thrown at her
FU I’d never do that
How is it invalid, she said she was told someone in her past family was Indian. She took a test which indeed proves someone in her families past carried a lot of genes an Indian would.
You don’t have to like Warren but focus on her politics not some made up bullshit you read on the internet

But she didn’t do any of those things.

I mean shouldn’t you be familiar with the basic facts before going on some rant?

The "why it matters" is because it suggests that she might not be truthful about her explanations. It seems like even the eloping story itself is fiction, which it probably is considering the DNA test suggests only 1/64-1/1024.... Whether that was Warren or her parents I don't know.

Before people were mocking her about 1/32. Now it's 1/64-1/1024. She should have just dropped it, as this didn't help at all for putting it to rest. Probably more than half of this now is simply about mocking her for identifying with a group that she has a very distant link to. Very little is about her heritage explanation. Many were never denying that she could have some Indian blood.

But she didn’t do any of those things.

I mean shouldn’t you be familiar with the basic facts before going on some rant?

Even if we take her heritage vs. tribal membership explanation at face value, any idiot knows what people would think or what's implied by the following: She put "Cherokee" next to her name; she identified as a minority; she actually initiated telling university officials about it; and in an interview, she suggested she may have done the same if "Cherokee" was replaced with "black".
