I never said that's the reason for it. But, unintentionally, the cop probably did someone a favor. In other words, I file this under "who gives a shit."

On that rationale (or lack thereof) all people cops arrest should be shot on sight. Given recidivism rates most people who get arrested once are habitual criminals and will commit more crimes in the future. It would unintentionally do somebody a favor, all their future victims would be safe.

Poaching an elk + failing to disclose = corruption = bad.

Most cops are good people who act professionally and follow the law. Some aren't. The more lawbreaking, corrupt, and incompetent police you have in a country, the shittier society you live in. I think police officers should be given the benefit of the doubt and not prosecuted for minor offenses, but there needs to be accountability concerning your job. Bad cops,this guy is clearly bad, should be fired.

Elk are huge members of the deer family (moose being the largest) and are dangerous.

All Drpizza said was there was a good chance that the elk would hurt someone sooner or later because people assume the animal is just a big furry pet and stop being cautious around it.

If he had called it in to dispatch and then filed paperwork, I don't think this would be that big of a deal. I might not like it, but it's not something to actually mess up someone's career over.

But he didn't. He processed it for meat and covered it up. Those things ARE big, which means that it's a whole lot of free meat.

Why are you people OK with corruption?

I am not ok with corruption. I stated earlier in the thread that he deserves whatever punishment is justified.

Also, my Uncle who lives in Grimsby, Ontario, used to drive his big 4x4 at night and would then hit a deer. No damage to his truck due to the huge bush bars on it. He would then make sure the deer was dead and call the OPP to report the accident. They give you the option to keep the carcass, so he would take it home and butcher it.

He didn't do it often but he said it was easier than hunting. Hunting season being rather limited here.

I'd be sad if a neighborhood quasi-pet got killed by a cop under seemingly shady circumstances. I would want the issue to be investigated, and the legality of the officer's actions made sure of.

I wouldn't go to a vigil, however. But I PERSONALLY would be sadder about something that actually effects my life than about a tragedy that doesn't truly affect me. However, for those truly affected by the kid shootings, I am sure that their pain is infinitely worse than anyone who knew this elk.

Seems fishy that the cop didn't report firing his firearm.

If he was on trial or a criminal, that one neglected disclosure would result in none of his testimony being considered the truth. Lie about one thing, and who can believe anything else you say?

I bet he shot it for the trophy antlers (see pic) and the meat, and taxpayers paid for his on-the-clock suburban safari. Fire his ass.
