Huh, I take issue with law breaking cop who shot an animal that the neighborhood had a soft spot for. If I lived there and some piece of shit who had no business with a badge shot it, I might show up. I'd do it more to talk to my neighbors about organizing to get the shitstain who shot it fire than anything else, though.

That. And it worked. That lying sack of shit cop obstructed justice and hid evidence and was going to get away with it. Now the vigil has turned it into national news and it can't be swept under the rug.

Sounds like a pretty good plan by sensible people using mourning to bring justice to the real idiot in the story: the cop.

HAHA oh man I'm glad I don't live in Denver.

That happened in Boulder, not Denver

Anybody who knows shit about fuck knows that Boulder is chock full of weirdos and hippies. Take every single stereotype you have about Southern California, distill it into it's more concentrated form, and spray it across a medium-sized mountain town full of wanna-be hipsters you have Boulder.

“I cried; outraged; I lost a very deer friend,” resident Marcus O’Bryon said. “I know that’s hard for some people to believe, but he was an incredible, magnificent creature.”

fixed. Also fucking hippies.

Strange that you could watch a Youtube video displaying adults or children dying and it'll get a couple thousand comments about how tragic it is. But watch a video of someone hurting a cat and there will be hundreds of thousands of people each with a level of outrage that completely eclipses the sum of all the outrage from those that commented on the human being killed.

It's ridiculous.

And then gangnam style has over a billion views...

Why did the cop shoot the elk anyway? The article and the OP seem fixated on a few people completely unrelated to the killing of the elk.

Nevermind, I see that he claims it was wounded. I think they need to investigate this further. Talk to the meat processor to see if the animal was wounded as the cop says. Then take disciplinary action if necessary.

I'm jealous. I spent an entire week last fall trying to shoot an elk and didn't get one.

That's funny.

Was this particular elk a dnager to the neighborhood? Did it have a problem with Meth or something? or did the officer think it had a weapon?

Sounds like this elk was well known around those parts, almost like a pet, so I can kinda see their side.

Kinda like the squirrels and chipmunks at this place I used to camp, we pretty much knew them individually. There was a couple squirrels that used to always come see me in the morning, it was like clock work. This one squirrel only trusted me for some reason, he was my little buddy. Even if I had no peanuts he'd just come hang out on my shoulder and stuff. Awesome little guy. I'd be extremely pissed if someone would have harmed any of these animals. They were almost like our pets.

Elk rut in September in the US. They are generally not aggressive otherwise.

That being said there are more than a few reasons not to discharge a weapon in a residential area, a wounded animal can be very dangerous, the cop is lucky it died.

It does sound like poaching. If done as part of his official duties, he should have filled out a report, and donated the animal to a food bank.

I agree, I can also see their side. We have a family of deer in our neighborhood, it's common to see 4-5 does walking around grazing. I would be fairly offended if a LEO shot one for no reason whatsoever.

What's really screwed up is that this guy will be investigated by his peers. I would be VERY surprised if he even got a swat on the wrist, what with the thin blue line and all.

Also, if said LEO had no problem falsifying and covering up to hide something as simple as this imagine what he'd do if something "really bad" had actually happened.

He should be permanently stripped of his badge and blacklisted.

The problem though, is that he never submitted ANY paperwork. Usually shit cops will report their shit, but falsify it. The fact that his bosses first heard about this entire incident from the neighborhood people is a problem for him. That, and the fact that it's blatant poaching.

Did it happen during elk season? If so then kudos to the cop.

You clowns cry over deer too?

It's a wild animal. It's a BIG animal. And people were too comfortable too close to it. The officer possibly saved someone from severe injuries down the road.

I'm sure that's what was on his mind as he was grilling up elk tenderloin, the safety of the neighborhood.

Seriously. I wouldn't go to a vigil or whatever, but if a trigger happy cop shot a deer in my neighborhood I would be pissed.

Exactly. This was illegal poaching. Simple as that. Don't try to make it anything else.

Huh, you ignored this part:

So, a neighborhood has an elk that likes to come and graze with no nuisance reports, then some piece of shit cop illegally shoots it, poses for his 'prize', goes and gets the meat processed, and then fails to make ANY REPORT about it?

Fire this shit stain

Normally I laugh at hippies crying over shit like this but anyone can read between the lines here.

The cop wanted a trophy kill (edit: and probably meat) and shot it on duty.

I never said that's the reason for it. But, unintentionally, the cop probably did someone a favor. In other words, I file this under "who gives a shit."

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "the people that live in the neighborhood where this idiot cop negligently discharged a firearm in a densely populated area." You tell me what is more dangerous.
