I know this does not really deserve it's own thread, but let's admit it has not been terribly busy around here so what the heck.

I have posted this before, but this is Elmer, my 1941 Ford truck. I have to get it repainted now and was curious about what you all thought about the white highlights. They are modlings in the body and I have not seen another truck painted like this. I know the first option is to repaint it back to stock colors, but he is in no way stock, plus the original green is kind of ugly

So what do you think of the hightlights?

Nice truck! Personally, I'm not a fan of the white...I don't think it ADDS ANYTHING to the look...and might actually be detracting. HOWEVER, trying to restore the original chrome might be nearly impossible.

As for the color...do whatever makes YOU happy. It's not like you have it restored to "factory original." Enjoy the thing.

I've seen the stock green-calling it kind of ugly is an understatement. Love your blue color. The white isn't bad-I'm not sure if it adds anything but also don't think it is a mistake. One thing I'm certain of-I love your front turn signals-something you could never get on a vehicle today. Also love the scoop just ahead of the windshield-I assume this is for cabin air?

My feelings align with Thump. It neither adds nor detracts from the truck. I'd have saved the money/time by not doing it, but it looks fine with the accent. What really makes the truck sexy, is it's being used for work. It's not just a weekend showpiece.

i like it on the cab, not on the bed. could you just do the bead, a thin stripe around the rectangle where the solid white is now?

The paint looks pretty good as it is. I don't see any oxidation. Why do you want to re-paint it? Is it perhaps because you want to paint over the white areas? Because if you choose to keep it as is, I don't see any reason for another painting.

Thanks all. I bought it this way 4 years ago. I needed a truck to haul things and in it's previous life it was used to haul stock cars around.

I was going to leave the paint the way that it is but on our communities free garbage dump day, Elmer decided he liked it there and did not want to go home. Fortunately I was beside a family that had a car trailer and was able to take me home.

So I had to do some repairs to Elmer. I usually keep him covered but could not really do that while I was doing the repairs. This took about 4 months and the paint now is just gone. These are all older pictures. The one thing that has been nice is that there are dents and scratches now so I am not really worried about adding any more. Not that I do it on purpose, but I don't have to be extra careful. I do love a dark blue car so I will probably go for that and maybe paint the highlights a little lighter blue, or maybe black. So they are still there, but not as prominent.

I saw a 1938 Ford truck for sale and I thought it looked kind of bland without the moldings painted. I laughed at the bed too because it looked great, but has never seen a piece of plywood in it.

Thump, Yes that scoop is what I call the "Air Conditioner"

Elmer doing what Elmer does. I bought him to be a work truck. First is bringing home the new toolbox. Then we have a neighborhood clean up day tomorrow. First load is from pulling all the shrubs out front. Next load will be a bunch of junk we have around.

I decided that I am going to repaint Elmer myself. The problem is since he is a work truck I am not too worried about getting scratches in the paint. Once I get him painted then I might start being extra careful with him. One reason I want to repaint him myself, so I can do any touch ups myself.

Elmer was named after my uncle Elm. I can't remember a lot about the man, but I do remember he had a cabin in the woods that called "the country place" and he was quite a character. So seemed fitting to name the truck after him.

This is his good side, his other side has some nasty scrapes on it and the paint is peeling off the roof. (Maybe he is going bald) Now that I think about it I might get his paint matched and buy some rattle cans. I have never painted a car before so that would let me practice my dent repair/painting skills before I do a full respray.

Edit to add. Not the first time he has carried some old fencing in his life time. Second trip to the collection area and the guy says “I know you have been here before. You know where to go 😀”
