Well it is about a country that think sending asylum seekers to Rwanda is AOK so I can't really jump on Elon hard.

Though that Rwanda policy was enacted at the demands of the very same dementedly-anti-migrant people Musk is now trying to paint as potential victims of such a scheme, so I guess that would fall into the category of 'projection' - the reasoning being, "it's what we want to do to _them_, so they surely must be planning do it to _us_".

Anyway, only about three people actually got sent to Rwanda, and they went voluntarily. I may be wrong but as I understand it the UK is now committed to support those three living there for life.

(appaerntly it was _four_ people) from wiki:
The plan is reported to have cost £700 million. Under it, a total of four asylum seekers went to Rwanda, all voluntarily.

Mostly 'start up' costs for a scheme that never got off the ground before the election scuppered it entirely. Presumably Rwanda got something out of it, and, um, that's a pretty poor country, so maybe it did some good somewhere? (depending on who ended up with it).

Just the usual Conservative Economic Management.

Isn't this 2nd version something that only real got started when it was painfully clear they were going to get their asses handed to them whenever an election was called? You all need to follow every last dime and find out who benefited from it. 100% Grift.

Musk seems to be a full-on, pre-Putin-post-Soviet, Russian-style Oligarch at this point. Using his wealth (partly gained via interaction with the state) to intervene in politics in an entirely destructive way.

I wonder if that's a warning that the next stage is an actual Putin figure coming to power in the US? Seems to be quite a lot of parallels in the recent trajectory of the country.

Have to say I agree with the sub-head of this article entirely. Lock him up.

There does seem to be a concerted attempt by some of these billionaires to seize power in western countries. Not directly, but through basically having their puppets run things. JD Vance is a great example of that - my strong suspicion is that the expectation there was for Trump to win and then keel over from a McNugget lodged in his heart or whatever, leaving the country with President Peter Thiel Puppet.

This. It’s the end state of the gilded age. The .0001% needs to be put back in their place.

Musk to me is on the same level of shitty as Trump, so is Thiel. Rogan is on the Vance level of shittiness, so not far off.

Yea Thiel should be on everyone's radar:

"Thiel taught this class at Stanford and then turned it into a book called Zero to One. He talks about how companies are better run than governments because they have a single decision maker—a dictator, basically. He is hostile to the idea of democracy. That’s pretty scary when you consider the role the companies that he’s been involved in play. Facebook, I’d say is the most influential media entity in the history of humanity, but he also has a major stake in several defense contractors, including SpaceX."

"You note that he has funded two senators—Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley—and is now funding two more candidates. Do you worry he’ll wield outsized power over government?
I have to say I worry less about the grandstanding of a handful of senators connected to Thiel than I do about the effect of Thiel-ism on the culture. When you combine the hostility to democracy and institutional norms with the bankroll of a billionaire you can potentially do some damage."

Its pretty obvious that Peter Thiel is using his billions and influence to fuck around with government for shits and giggles.

Maybe ill read his book actually.

Also :

""I don't think we're ever in a cyclical world but there are certainly certain parallels in the U.S. in the 2020s to Germany in the 1920s," Thiel said. "Liberalism is exhausted, one suspects that democracy, whatever that means, is exhausted, and that we have to ask some questions very far outside the Overton window.""

Fucking psychos.
Indeed. Sociopaths.

Do you think Peter Thiel fucked JD Vance so hard up his ass he gave him permanent eyeliner? Not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's something else

I think billionaires needs a spanking. Think maybe Putin had the right idea when he railed the Russian Oligarchs in... Now to do it via democratic means...

And networking in the upper echelons of power, as far as I've been able to google up Thiel has provided numerous jobs for Vance over the years.. Favors favors kompromat?

elmo potentially opening himself up to liability for "register to vote" PAC website not actually doing what they claimed.
taking personal information from people, linking to registration dependent on whether they were in a swing or non swing state. potential fraud depending on what else they did with the private info. potentially criminal if they did so intentionally.
after michigan reporter asked about the site, they changed the site.
broadly could be an election interference if the investigation pans out.

I'd be curious to see how that would work within the confines of the constitution.
