Losing 44 billion liquid would definitely hurt Elon. He wouldn't just shrug it off.

Corrected that. Then there are the operating losses when the user base advertisers pay for mostly flee the platform. The company will become a cash incinerator on top of his investment.

I think first thing he may do is, start a premium subscription service with exclusive features that enhance the tweeting experience. Think Gold or Platinum tweets. Heck, Elon! If your AI bots are crawling these forums, I have a message for you. HIRE ME AS YOUR TWITTER CONSULTANT! I can top your crazy ideas with even more crazy ones

Will they though? Will a "influencer" (social media narcissist), with millions of followers on the platform, walk away from that? I'm doubtful.

If they stay, the followers will likely stay as well.

What like there are not other larger and/or better growing platforms? There will not be other platforms in the future? The particular slice of users that Twitter hosts is definitely left leaning and the most likely to bolt if he makes changes they don't like. The irony here is that if Elon wanted to read more right wing views could have simply switched platforms to FB instead of buying the company like an idiot.

Less than a quarter of Americans report ever using Twitter:

Twitter is so pervasive, that the amount who read tweets is probably much higher. Think about how of people post tweets in these forums. I don't have a Twitter account, but nearly every day, I read much on this forum, I will see someone posting a tweet.

When Trump was on, the media, nearly made a news story of his Daily Tweets...

This is the fundamental thing Musk seems not to understand. Twitter’s current moderation policies were essentially forced on them by the market against their own corporate ethos.

Twitter didn’t decide to moderate because it hates conservatives and free speech, it decided to moderate because their users reported having a bad experience.

What side of the political spectrum do you think this forum heavily tilts towards?

If memory serves Twitter users are both disproportionately liberal and affluent which probably describes this forum pretty well.

In a perfect world this would happen. And thanks, yes I meant 44 Billion, the agreed upon sale price.

What does that have to do with anything? I'm just pointing out it's pervasive.

This forum is full of Twitter posts from tech companies, and tech leakers, they are posted here daily.

There are other platforms, but none that seem to fill Twitters role, so I don't really expect some kind of mass abandonment.

I think his point is that Twitter is probably referenced more frequently here because there's a big overlap in interests between Twitter users and ATPN users.

I do think there is a significant question as to what people interpret as 'using' Twitter. I personally count myself as a Twitter user as I read it frequently but I have never tweeted. I can see how someone else could do the exact same thing and NOT consider themselves a user.

I've heard that differentiated as an "inactive" user, and the ones that actually tweet as an "active" user. Vast majority are apparently in the former category. Which doesn't really surprise me TBH.

Agreed, this is why I suspect the "using" number is underreported.

I think Twitter users come in all stripes, and if you look at the largest accounts. Most of them pop music groups, followed by sports stars, and political figures. Very Few techies.

So I think overlap is stronger with the average person (Music, Sports, Politics) than with techies.

This is a few years old now but it's probably still reasonably accurate.

Twitter users are:
1) Middle aged
2) Better educated than average
3) Higher income than average
4) Much more Democratic than average.

Twitter users are more likely to be liberal, more educated, and have higher incomes. If that doesn't sound like here I'm not sure what to say.

I simply argue that you cannot extrapolate Twitter's relevance here onto the broader population.
