It's a miracle Tesla and SpaceX have survived this long.

With Twitter's staffing levels at a critical low all it would take is one hack and the whole thing would burst in flames, or a major event like the World Cup occurring.

If you have no engineers the only thing you can do is a complete shutdown, Twitter could go defunct and out of commission within the month at this pace.

IOW, by Dec. 1. Yes, and World Cup IS coming and it will load the system. Seems fair to say real good chance TWTR's gone before the cup is presented, or at least down.

I will create a terrible work environment. Punishments will be severe and random. Your waking hours will be filled with dread and terror. The very air you breathe will be a poisonous fume of my capricious ambition and stupidity. Please sign this acceptance of new work conditions or leave with 3 months pay.

Hey wait where's everybody going.
Punishments. Thats the kind of thinking that keeps us anchored in the past. Fuck that guy.

Doesnt make sense. How in hell were Tesla and SpaceX so successful? Just by his handling of twitter Musk seems like the most incompetent business leader to have ever emerged. I guess he had much less input at his successful businesses.

What he’s doing sure seems to skate awfully close to constructive dismissal, which is when someone resigns due to a hostile work environment having been created. And that’s generally illegal, although as I understand it, the remedy is generally requiring employers to pay severance in that situation.

And what I really don’t get is why anyone would stick around for Twitter. I mean, I sort of see the vision behind SpaceX and the idea that you’re doing something really cool, pushing boundaries, exploring space, going where few men have gone before, etc… And I can see why some people might want to be on board with that, even with oppressive working conditions. But Twitter? There’s none of that visionary, boundary-pushing stuff there. It’s a social media platform. It’s not really changing the world anymore. So why work 80 hour days or whatever? Just bail, work 40-50 somewhere else.

Basically what Musk wants are the sort of people who are totally bought into his vision/cult of personality and who don’t care about family, relationships, personal life. Complete loyalty. A Twitter inc sweat shop. It probably was already; Musk is just saying/reiterating the quiet part out loud, and giving himself (in his mind) some pretext for future firings.

He's so incredibly inept not to see that what he is doing will actually cost him a lot more to fix then if he just left things alone. If all those employees dont come back, he will have to hire new and unfamiliar ppl to the business. Esp those critical to the running and maintenance of the the site.

Sure seems like the intent was to shutter Twitter from the beginning.

Could musk have just shut it down or would there be a legal reason to pretend complete incompetence in order to shutter it?

There is a conspiracy theory Elon is just covering up evidence of bot farming.

Not seeing any other explanations.

If no one has evidence that he bot farmed yet, why would he need to cover it up? How likely is it that no one at Twitter would have seen something and not leaked it to the press?

Let’s say he did utilize bots, so what? What’s the worse that could happen? A fine for market manipulation? Would anything he did end up costing him more than 44 billion?

I’m not buying it.

The simple explanation is that he wanted to buy Twitter so he could control the narrative about whatever he saw fit. After signing the intent to purchase he probably got cold feet and realized he was already able to control the narrative. Then when he was forced to buy it he went man child and decided to just destroy it?

I don’t know but when you are that rich, 44 billion isn’t Shit and he’s treating this acquisition as if it doesn’t mean Shit to him.

I like the part where he claims Twitter needs to maintain its competitive edge, like they are in some raging battle to sell advertising as cheap as possible. Twitter's competitive edge is its huge user base, not its cheap advertising space. If his goal wasn't to drive it into the ground then his mental capacity is on par with Kanye.

I am very loaded at the moment and can barely keep myself awake but my 2 c on this matter is that he can possibly swing this as a multi year tax write off due to his own wealth. I know how this works at the corporate level but very unsure on the single human level.

The other is he doesn't like twitter. Tbh him killing twitter doesn't hurt anyone outside the rare instances where the website has been available to protesters from repressed nations such as iran. if twitter disappeared tomorrow nothing would be amiss. people forget what the world was like without every fucking bullshit statement and announcement under the sun under their fingertips at any hour of the day.

Screw the bird, and screw facebook. make bbs and forums great again.

Nope. Twitter is Musk's favorite toy. He doesn't want to destroy it. He's just an arrogant fool, showing us his best ideas for fixing it, and being the smartest man in the world, he can't take any criticism or advice.

IOW, it's being destroyed by:

Yessssss.

This entire thing is entertaining. Musk doing his thing and the people that care enough for some reason to react. Gives me entertainment anyway, I don't care about closed-source Twitter.

Mastodon getting some new attention is pretty cool stuff, I run IRC & Matrix servers and always keen on advancement of messaging protocols and platforms in general. Decentralization is the way to go for closer-to-true freedom of speech.
