Elmo bros get fucked. Ah I have to sympathize - it could have been me.
Lol a couple of my coworkers that drive Tesla's routinely parrot the line "Well, I bought it before I knew he was an asshole..."
We still celebrate the SpaceX launches and then continue to debate what a douche Elon has become. (edit: Sorry. Always was. As some of you like pointing out).
I like people. At a distance.Maybe you should stop watching Train to Busan repeatedly?
All the more reason we should be more strictly regulating vehicle sizes. As an aside, I don't think humans driving those dipshit penis-enhancer trucks that seem to be everywhere are going to avoid kids either...or even see them. They might feel the bump. Hell I'm 6'4" and I can barely look over the hoods on some of them. Add in texting that every moron does and I doubt "AI" can do worse.
My solution has been to work from home so I don't need to drive much Stay away from both distracted morons and killer robot cars....more importantly, avoid the "open and collaborative" open office plan that my company went to, don't get me started...
The only reason SpaceX runs well is because Elon is insulated from the day-to-day operations. There is a big team that actually runs that place, led by Gwen. Sometimes she'll let busk take credit to appease that huge ego of his but he's not involved in making that ship run. If musk had the freedom at SpaceX like he does at Tesla lol Twitter those rockets would be going nowhere.SpaceX for better or worse is the only thing that showed up to give my grandparents Internet even remotely close to modern standards. For years prior, they were on HughesNet (DirecWay back then) satellite internet, and got the chance to get 512kbps DSL from AT&T in 2007. They limped that along (it was the highest speed AT&T would give them) until Hurricane Michael landed in 2018. That wiped out their area, dropping electric poles everywhere from the 35 mile or so stretch to their nearest town. You could see the huge spindly messes of POTS lines on the ground, busted out from their bundled cable from getting torn down by trees and power line collapses.
After waiting about a month with no phone or internet, AT&T contacted my parents via cell phone on a large hilltop to tell them "we're not investing in POTS in that area anymore and you'll have to get an alternative service" </shrug>. They offered their Fixed Wireless service, and set up an installation schedule. After coming out, they quickly found that there was no signal (which we had told them when they first said they were giving up POTS lines), and ultimately went "there's nothing we can do for you" </shrug>.
We limped them along for a while with an AT&T SIM card and 2 long Yagi antennas focused on a 1900Mhz LTE tower about 17 miles away. This allowed for about 1.5Mbps service and was better than their old DSL, but it was very vulnerable to weather degradation and spring / summer foliage harming the signal. Still, they limped that along for about 4 years when Starlink became available in 2022. Completely changed Dad's life (mom unfortunately passed before then) and now he and his 2 sons who stay with him can watch fishing shows on YouTube, stream the baseball game on MLB.TV, download Windows Updates without hitting a Fair Access Policy limit, and video chat with me and others at any time of the day. It even let them keep getting messages on their cell phones because the carriers continue service over their internet.
Elon is a POS, but so is everyone else in this space, including the FTC who allowed carriers like AT&T to consume companies like DirecTV with a pinky promise that they would improve rural internet access and then just.. didn't do anything. I may not like Elon, but at least there's a service that has allowed my grandfather to see some of the modern world on the internet before he passes.
Yeah I was alluding to that imminent release. But they've pivoted strategies before, so who knows what they're actually releasing. A few years ago, it was Tesla car owners could opt into the robotaxi fleet and print profits for themselves. But if that was actually the case, why would you suddenly release FSD for $99 a month? He used to claim your Model 3 is an appreciating asset once you start putting it to work.I think they're supposed to announce their robotaxi service soon, I'm guessing he's doing it to be able to fluff the numbers. But then, why he wouldn't just offer free FSD if people opted in to let their cars be part of the robotaxi service, I dunno. Maybe its just to juice sales prior to the robotaxi service to fluff numbers about potential installed base and then fluff numbers of how many people are using FSD.
You have to be kidding me. Musk killed the hardware needed to surpass level 2. He wants to do it cheap and sleek looking to sell cars but it just not possible right now. Since where has that stopped musk though? The autonomous driving scenario Musk has been touting for what, a decade, has always been BS for the current line of cars.
What getting people to use FSD is for us to train Tesla’s algorithms (while paying to do it!) I fully believe Musk intends (at least today) to produce a fully autonomous car and this is a way for them to outsource the work to make that happen while collecting revenue at the same time.
Missing my point. The current line up (S, 3, X, Y) will never be capable of level 5 autonomy. You’re right, they don’t have the hardware, but more importantly they don’t need level 5 hardware for Tesla to have their customers pay them to collect a shit ton of training data to be used to on their eventual autonomous car.You have to be kidding me. not that i know a ton about autonomous vehicles, but how would you train a level5-capable system on data from not-level5 systems? wouldn't there be a massive gap in the data set overall (sensor data for whatever parts make a system truly level 5 capable)?Missing my point. The current line up (S, 3, X, Y) will never be capable of level 5 autonomy. My company wants people to come to "collaborate" and "bounce ideas off each other." Then they put signs everywhere that say "Shhh... this is a work area.".more importantly, avoid the "open and collaborative" open office plan that my company went to, don't get me started...
Another reason there should be actual standards and regulations these things are built/tested to.While I agree, I see the bigger problem in the United States (even more than the engineering challenge), is the legal challenge.
Lawyers will work to destroy such automated driving - going after everyone involved in such software for every accident (even if such accidents are far fewer than human driving), and likely collecting into class action suits. Although I have been surprised by how few the lawsuits have been against Tesla, so far.
I have a feeling that personal transit devices kill far more people a year than any type of mass transit, especially if you factor in community health.Ill take personal transport instead of over crowded disease sharing community transits any day thanks .
Man, I want to move to Busan just for the trains, they are amazing.Maybe you should stop watching Train to Busan repeatedly?
Maybe over a certain weight (ahem...Hummer EV...) you need a trucker license lol.All the more reason we should be more strictly regulating vehicle sizes.
I know blah blah blah personal freedom, but I didn't sign up to be the crash dummy for some dip shit to run me over in their egowagon.
Maybe over a certain weight (ahem...Hummer EV...) you need a trucker license lol.
I'd like to see scaling excise taxes based on vehicle weight, because road damage is a function of weight to the fourth power, higher license grades for vehicles over a certain weight and length, and national standards for bumper heights and frontal blind spots.Maybe over a certain weight (ahem...Hummer EV...) you need a trucker license lol.
Those things aren't just dangerous on their own, but the owners that drive them tend to be colossal fucking douche-bags that prove it with their driving habits.
They just shouldn't be road legal. The pickup model weights 9,640 lbs., does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, and has a 211' braking distance from 70-0mph.
But who needs to stop when you can just plow through everyone and everything?
These things absolutely should require a special license, along with an insane increase in excise tax.
True. But god damn I want one. They just shouldn't be road legal.
