CHeapest dual core laptop I've seen. It's emachines though, so don't expect fantasmic things.

now that w7 has been out a while these companies are getting pretty desperate. these prices are fairly common now

This is the same thing that Best Buy had a few weeks ago. I picked this same one up. I'm very satisfied with it for the price. Waaayy better than a netbook, for about the same price. It's a bargain, trust me! It's a great laptop, if you can get over the 2.5 hour battery life.

If memory serves, the Best Buy deal had a single-core Celeron 900. This has a Pentium Dual-Core running at the same clockspeed for about the same price, making this a better deal.

T4400, 3gb ram, 250gb hd, 8x dvd, 15" lcd, win7.. thats really impressive specs for $300. It does seem better than a netbook that doesn't have a burner and memory is limited to 2gb at most.

Don't laugh but my grandmother lives in a rural area and many of the eMachines bought at walmart have outlasted the Dells other's grandkids/kids have sent those people.

I have been handling a lot of calls from those that bought netbooks thinking they were like desktop replacements. They are just glorified PDAs to me.

Some Walmarts are selling these early, I bought one yesterday(Friday 2/26). I took it out of the box and it showed 74% battery, then proceeded to run it for 2 1/2 hours of web surfing with screen brightness of 60%. It runs slightly warm on the lap, but it is very impressive for $298. After an all night of charging I have been web sufing for over an hour and 20 minutes and am now down to the 74% mark, so it looks like at least 3 and a half battery life.

You're partially right. I snagged one of the BB ones, and it's a 2.2ghz Celeron Dual Core, not Pentium like these.

How are the touchpads on these?

I'm happy with the touchpad. Not overly sensitive. But I've read some reviews where people think it is too sensitive. I think it's just sensitive enough. I like the scrollpad on the side of the touchpad.
