eMachines dual core (T4400) laptop $298 @ WalMart 2/28

I've tried several zipcodes for MidWest, TX, and AZ and 000's B&M and online

update: B&M seemed to have PLENTY of items available. They are not on the shelves but in a lockup cage behind sales counter (at least where I went).

I was looking at an MSI Atom N450 netbook from Fry's a week ago for $259 with a smaller HD, 1mb memory but had draft N Wifi. Screen rez on this is close to 720p. I'd be totally satisfied if it just had an ExpressCard port. Pallet ship dates were Jan 26th.

4 Wal-Marts visited this morning, only one still had any in stock and it had only one left.

Talked with the dept. person in each that WM listed online as carrying the laptop....each said their particular WM started selling the laptop as soon as it hit the store, not waiting for today--Sunday.

But, I snagged the one I found. Works great. Like the textured lid...great for reducing fingerprints.

For $300 for a dual core Pentium laptop w/3GB memory, what could you find wrong with it......other than it's not in stock.

Edit: I found out people were able to order at like 2am. No wonder there are not any in stock.

When I left Wmart they were going to bring out 50 units. This item is internet HOT as online buying takes inventory up and down. SD has over 55 pgs on this thread topic. According to what I've read elsewhere, this item is identical to an Acer Aspire except the top surface around the KB is a gray color on the Acer. MicroCenter has what might be the Acer Aspire twin, the AS5732Z-4867 for $449.99 on current sale and its specs appear identical.

That's what I was wondering, too. I haven't seen any dual core laptop from Best Buy for under $449 in like forever.....certainly not right now.

I was going to recommend this to a coworker that just had their Dell stolen...went into a local WalMart and they said they think people already bought them...the guy wasn't really sure but mentioned their is someone that comes in for all these 'internet' deals and scoops them all up then comes back and price adjusts

They need something reasonable as it was stolen while on vacation and they are still recovering from that cost.

Get up, get out, and get 'em if you want them. Ask a sales associate if the electonics dept about them. While some stores may have sold some early, other stores held them back. They are not in display areas near the other notebooks. Sheez

Actually, the stores I went into had a tag on the laptop rack for this specific laptop, incl. price. The store I found mine in had it in the usual laptop storage rack under the display row of laptops, and a price placard along with a display unit on the display row, just like any other laptop.

I can't see any reason why you couldn't.

I recently did a clean install of Vista on my dad's laptop using a retail disk (not the ones provided by Toshiba with all of the garbage on them) and this little utility that grabs the internal OEM product key and then restores it after you've reinstalled Windows. It worked like a charm. All you need is a thumb drive.

There's a new beta with Windows 7 support.

Troy Michigan, Maple rd and Coolidge , had about 30 of em. Bought one for my mom this morning at 10am. There is a lot of heat to the right of the touchpad, not sure if that is normal for laptops. Very happy with it. Nice looking. Would buy one for me if I needed a lap top.
Currently "disinfecting" the software. Works great so far. Will do some tests to see how stable it is.

Edit: Thank you for posting it. Mom's laptop is junk, can't fix it cheap enough.

Picked one up friday afternoon. It gets about body temp warm on the left bottom, but i am not seeing a hot spot to the right of the touchpad. The good news is 4+ hours battery life through 3 charge/discarge cycles web surfing/downloading with screen brightness at 60%. This is the best battery life I have experienced on a 15.6" laptop with a non ulv dualcore. The screen at 60% is VERY bright also.

Thankfully, the bloat/crapware isn't very extensive at all....some Norton crap, some emachine games, an Office trial. Not a bunch of junk on it, really....I've seen LOTS worse.

thanks to OP, i was able to get in on one. a hot girl and her bf/husband arrived right after i got the sales associate to show me the box and they grabbed one too. they had 2 left... this is in smalltown, PA. also, don't forget about taxes. with them it cost me about $15 extra but i can't complain too much.

not off topic if it makes this a better deal, and getting rid of the eshit on the thing makes it a better deal...

i just got the last 2 at east orlando ss and my kid picked up one of 6 left in livonia, mi...

playing with it now, this is a pretty darn nice little machine for the price... the keyboard is ok, the touchpad is actually quite good, the screen is small, but movies at 720 look nice... and it boots and resumes pretty darn fast...
