Email in WinXP

Been having a weird problem. Every now and then Outlook just will not send an email. It is receiving them perfect, but will not send. The settings must be right, becasue it will send for a while then every couple weeks or so just not do it. Also get a problem where i cannot send files thru yahoo messenger, it gives a firewall error, yet i do not have oen installed

Maybe the firewall app that comes with Windows XP? Check your connections to ensure that it is disabled if you do not want to use it. (IIRC the XP firewall only blocks outgoing traffic, not incoming, so that may explain why sometimes you can not send). If you do have a broadband connection, you can use Zone Alarm or some other software firewall. Or a hardware one.

It might be your ISP's mail server. The firewall that ships with XP does *some* incomming firewalling, but no outgoing. You may try contacting your ISP and get them to double check your settings. Also on some of the isp's when you call tech support it will give information about outages and problems in particular areas.

For personal use I have had good luck with sygate personal firewall 5.0. Just do a search at download.com

so it just fixes it's self ? or are you doing something to get it to work again ?

As far as your Messenger problem, are you on a router? Because you can chat normally, but when you try to send a file, it uses a different port. And I'm guessing that your port has this blocked by default. All you have to do is go into your router and tell it to "open" the port.

(This is IF you are on a router of course.)

Not currently running a router. the Firewall in XP is checked as disabled. Not running a third party firewall. I did notice it kind of freaked out when i uninstalled NAV 2002. I can receive, but not send now, checked all the mail settings. I assumed it was not any settings at isp, its cox cable. and it had worked before. It really started when my NAV2002 timed out. I uninstalled it and it all started freaking out. yahoo will not send fileseither, but i can send thru MSN or ICQ. (do those 2 do something different when sending files?)

any assistance is appreciated.
