My pastor's computer that I built for him a couple of years ago is completely dead, no beeps, no nothing at all.

It is an ABIT KT7 that I put a T-Bird 1.4 on about 2 months ago, whth 2 HD's, CD-Rom, CD-RW.

The only details that I have are that he heard a fan nois recently and then in went away, so he thought that the fan was OK, as sometimes thay are. He did not mention any burning plastic smell or anytning. He believes the problem to be a dead power supply.

Q-1) What are the chanses that is is the power supply?

If it is the Power Supply, I need to get him one ASAP and don't you know that our local CompUSA is out of both the Antec pp303x and pp403x. The only 300w they have is an Enlite 300w (Mfg'd by FMI - P.N. 10193075), and I can find no information on it.

Q-2) Is this Enlite 300w a decent power supply?

nothing happens when you press the on button? have you checked all the connections? try removing all the connectors and then reconnecting them. also just have the hard drive, vid card, and RAM installed. unplug/disconnect everything else. if you think it's the power supply, you can test it on another box. it might help if you list the specs.

was the fan he heard the ps fan or the cpu fan? either one going bad would cause the problem. when you power on does anything happen at all? no, it's the ps.
that ps is fine if you find no other.

Thanks for the Confirmation on the PS. He just called me from our local CompUSA and they actually had one Antec pp403x (400 watt) left and that is what I asked him to get.

The PC is completely dead. No beeps, no fans, no nothing at all.

He was moving files from the PC to his laptop and walked away for a bit, and when he came back, the PC was dead.
After about 5 minuts of calming himself down, he tried to turn it back on when nothing happened (Nothing At All Happened). He sniffed around the back and smelled the faint oder or scorched electronics.

The CPU and Fan are only 2 months old so I do not believe them to be the problem. I sincerely hope thay are not anyway.

I am going over tonight to check it out and hopefully just replace the PS.

Are there any "Quick" tests that I can do, prior to removing the old PS, that can confirm that that is indeed the problem?

was the computer plugged into a surge protector? have you made sure the power button is connected to the correct pins? can you physically turn the fan in the back of the psu?

Sounds like PSU to me,anyway the only way to find out is to replace it,PSUs can just die or go faulty,I had a 300w one that was AMD approved and only lasted 9 months.

It was the Power Supply.

I went over Friday night and put in the new Antec pp403 and the system fired right up.
It has been working flawlessly ever since.

Thanks for all the fast comments.
You all were a very big help
