Yeah I thought so too but they don't have the "emo" image that My Chemical Romance and Good Charlotte have.

all depends on when/where you are taking your "Emo" definition from. Some Emo bands were/are some of the hardest rocking sh!t ever.

Somebody once told me 'Screaming Infidelities' by that band best encapsulated the true essence of 'emo' music.

Listening to an acoustic ballad by a kid wailing on and on about how much it bugs him to think about his ex-gf making out with some other guy; so much that he wishes he was somewhere with someone making out himself (presumably to get back at her)....it really annoyed the living hell out of me. :|

The song's musical arrangement suggests it is an emotionally-charged ballad about love-lost...but the lyrics really left me with this gigantic WTF balloon pop-up over my head. I could picture some 15-year-old kid thinking this was the greatest, most touching love song ever written and the thought of that made me want to kill kittens.

Yes no songs have ever been written about heartache before (the current definition of) "emo"

It used to describe bands that, song after song, did nothing but wail on about their 'troubled experiences' (mom and dad yelled at me once) and 'trials and tribulations' (she dumped me) with romance. They generally sound like whiny little brats.

People on this forum generally tend to lump "emo" into what MTV sold them. Sadly thats not what Emo is... or was until MTV killed it.

I disagree - there is a whole thriving alternative culture that embraces a specific nich of art, music, and social community. The emo kids are not loners - they just reject a lot of what is mainstream - I wouldn't use the word outcast to describe these kids. I don't think most of these guys are depressed or anything like that - they just don't embrace baseball and MTV Real World like most high schoolers.

I haven't been in high school in a while though.
