I just spent the time since I first posted my question googling EMO, I must say I am out of touch with this genre of music, or at least what it stands for/represents. Since I have no experience with it I cannot critique it objectively. Now CRAP, err I mean rap on the other hand is something that I deplore. I believe it is one of the things that is ruining the fiber of this country. It's whole existance has turned violence into commenplace and demoralized the younger generation. And yes, I am a 40ish white male that grew up listening to what is reffered to as "classic Rock" today.
Well trucker, i'm 19ish (well actually I turned 19 just a couple of days ago) and I listen to blues and classic rock. But, mind you, not all classic rock is good. To me, the best classic rock is that of which is heavily influenced by blues i.e., Led Zeppelin, Cream, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doors, etc. Lately I've been on a Skynyrd binge. They are an amazing amazing band.
If that's the case then hopefully you realize those are all "folk" bands. EMO is strongly based on folk and has its very root in it. As is rap.
-edit- pick up Skynyrd's box set. Amazing.
I already have the box set. And yeah, its amazing.
