rcldesign, I ordered on the 26th and did not hear anything until today when I got a shipping notification...it did ship on the 2nd...I just didn't get the confirmation. Yours might have shipped already...calling doesn't help..best luck I had is writing to the email address on the confirmation of address and order email sent.

So are those of you who've actually received these thing pretty impressed? It looks kinda no-frills. Also, what other accessories do you need to purchase? Is the AC adapter required? Thanks.

Nikko, it is a cool gadget. It comes with power supply and such. Not sure what is needed on the car install though...it has wires and stuff hanging out the back end of the piece that stays in the car. As shipped, you can hook it into a computer and download music to it.

Where have I been? This is what I've been waiting for, but are they all out of stock now? If someone has an extra one I will gladly pay $100 over what you paid to get one if it is still new in the box (20G preferred). Someone email me!

Pull your head out. If you want to pay $100 dollars more than what someone else paid for a 20gb (which would be $299+$100=399) why don't you buy a 30gb from sonicblue (still in stock) for $399?

Sorry for the retarded post. I was at work and couldn't access the riocar site (damn web filters) and thought these were completely sold out. I am at home and just bought a 20G one. Thanks for the responses but I have "pulled my head out" and am feeling a little more sane.
Has anyone hooked these up to a 802.11b? I vaguely remember this being done on the old empeg site.

My next stupid question: what is 802.11b? Is it something I need to be worried about? I guess I'm wondering whether the EMPEG is something my car stereo guy will be able to attach without problems like a regular deck or if he's gonna look at it like it's something that mothership dropped.

What are the chances of them getting more radio tuners in stock?

Finally, someone above talked about being able to add a second hard drive. Does anyone know how that's done?

Sorry to ask so many questions.

I could not be more impressed. The look is without a doubt no-frills. There have been reports of people's cars getting broken into and the person's $50 discman getting stolen while the $1600 (original cost) Empeg is not touched. In my opinion, this is a huge plus, I'm definitely into stealth over flash.

Don't worry, when you turn the thing on the display is much cooler looking than most head units availible.

BTW, If anyone is wary to get rid of their high end head units, have no fear. This thing beats anything else ever made. Alpine, Pioneer, Sony, Clairion, the list goes on...none can compare. Chuck your $1000 head unit in the trash and upgrade to Empeg, baby!

(ok, so maybe i'm a little enthusiastic... )

Thanks for the update. I notice now you can't even select the AM/FM tuner on the website. Does that mean they are completely out? Bummer. It'd be cool having my entire music collection in my car, but I still need my sports-talk fix.

Are these things easy to fiddle with? I'm wondering how hard it would be to buy one of the players (say one of the cheaper models) and swap out the HDD for something much bigger.

Hopefully some of you will get as lucky as me. I ordered a 10gb and I received a 20gb yesterday. On the shipping receipt they crossed off 10gb and wrote 20gb so they know what I ordered and what they shipped. I think they sold out of 10gb units so fast they just shipped me a 20gb to fill the order.

If anyone got an extra 60 GB unit and wants to part with it, e-mail or private message me. It now appears that only the 30 GB version is still available.

Just got my shipping confirmation on a 30 GB Empeg that I ordered last week. Only thing that's irritating about these guys is they put an "allocation" on your credit card on items that haven't shipped because they are out of stock and might never ship. So I have about $1600 in charges being held on my CC for 30 days even though I'm actually only going to receive one player.

So how does this compare to the Roq-it 10 GB MP3 player that's available for $215 (with $30 MIR) at PCMall. This was listed on Techbargains today, and I was wondering if it was a good deal for those who did not get in on this one....

In case anyone still cares, I just got a shipping confirmation for a 60 GB player, two weeks after being told they were out of stock for good. If anyone wants to get in on these, the site lists the 30 and 60 GB as back in stock.

I tried to order a 60GB online today, but got some credit card message. Called the customer service number and was told that the 60GB was sold out.
