trump is the king of frivolous lawsuits, he has used them to get out of paying contractors for decades.

most just caved because they couldn't afford to continue to defend themselves.

yup yup. watch how quickly they drop it, but it's all part of the plan anyway. Snowflake a bunch of noise, the chuds will hear it once and determined that its the story all the time, never caring to follow up, never caring if the suit is legit, if the article is legit.
Look at speedy, couldn't start his own thread fast enough. You're right, of course, as soon as discovery begins Trump's team will drop this, but their goal is already accomplished - speedy and his ilk have their nonsensical rage boners.

This is all not to mention the fact that Trump is perhaps the most public figure on the planet which certainly raises the bar with regard to proof of damage.

typical trump move, I don't think the Times will fold like most of those that were the target of trump suits, they have the funds to defend themselves and trump will hate discovery if he doesn't drop it before it gets that far.
I hope the Time and WaPo make it front page news when Trump does drop the suit.

Man Trump sure seems to love the 1st amendment, haha.

What a fail of a lawsuit. My favorite part is where it says that the opinion piece writer should have teleported forward in time to know the results of the Mueller investigation (which the lawsuit also lies about).

Here’s a good post about the lawsuit in case anyone here wants to laugh at Trump some more.

Speedy, how do you feel about the fact that the response to this is just everyone laughing and laughing at Trump? Even better, if he sticks with it the NYT will just discovery tap dance all over him, making it even funnier. Does it bother you how dumb he seems to be?

Did anyone think that the Covington kid's suit had any merit?

Ah yes. Whataboutism. But if you wanted to compare there are major differences in the law surrounding the two cases, but my guess is that CNN settled for PR purposes.

Now perhaps you can answer my question.

Fortunately for the covington kid he had a different legal standard which worked toward his favor since private individuals need only establish that the publisher acted with "negligence."

The United States Supreme Court case New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964) established that a public figure plaintiff must establish what is known as “actual malice.” To show actual malice, the person who published the statement either had to have known that the statement was false, or published it with reckless disregard despite awareness of the probable falsity. The existence of actual malice must be proven by clear and convincing evidence.

haha favorite part from the link

Addendum: I think both Trump and his lawyer Charles Harder know this suit is dead in the water. Because if it was viable, Trump would be subject to a deposition. Trump. Under oath. About Russia. And there is zero chance of Trump allowing that to happen.

I'm 100% not in any way knowledgeable about how this all works first off. But is there a chance that Trump is hoping that he may take this all the way to the Supreme court, where his installed cronies can overturn NYT versus Sullivan?

It's a PR ploy that feeds into the persecution complex of the faithful. Witness Speedy.

The chances of that are basically zero. If this lawsuit isn't dismissed immediately Trump will have to sit for a deposition where he must discuss his ties with Russia under oath. The odds of him doing that are somewhere between zero and laughing clown face.

If his goal were to overturn NYT v Sullivan he would have chosen a defamation suit about something that he wasn't deathly afraid of answering questions under oath about.

Does this mean I have to demonstrate in court that when I referred to the President as a butt snorkel that he literally is a butt snorkel? I'm not looking forward to discovery.
