Ended a science project early

I had this science project going on in my desk. There was an opened package of oreos with only one left. I was waiting to see if mold was going to start growing on the oreo.

After about 3 weeks I said screw it and ate the oreo.

Yep - mold is somewhat more tolerant, but high sugar content, mostly dry ingredients, and high trans-fat content = quite secure against microscopic baddies.

Now, can't say the same about larger bugs. The little annoying and hunger-killing things like flour bugs/beetles, ants, worms/larva all up in your food. Never much cared for those additives.

Something sweet and open to the environment is sort of like a bright light is to nearly everything that flies. No guarantee something will show up, especially when it's in a desk drawer or similar place where bugs are far less likely (as opposed to anywhere in a kitchen), but it's the more likely outcome as opposed to infectious/cellular assholes living off of an Oreo.

One of my next experiments is to till up 3 rows for snap beans, then work in rabbit and chicken manure over the next few months.

When march gets here plant 3 rows of snap beans with 13-13-13 and 3 rows in the manure tilled rows, then compare the results when they start producing.

Hmm, I think you're right. Haven't bought any or otherwise looked at a label for Oreos in a long while.

IIRC, the lawsuit was dropped when they agreed to list it and it was stupid because an FDA mandate was on the way anyway. They probably listed it as regular fat or something.

The real test would be to put the oreo on a petri dish and place in an incubator.
