Just 5% higher than David Lynch's Dune. :hmm:

I wish JJ Abrams would team up with the Breaking Bad writers and make a good Dune movie. Something with the complexity of the book (Breaking Bad writers), but with the fun of a movie (JJ Abrams), without ruining the whole thing.

I'm worried. I don't know if I should see it or just not and leave my childhood alone.

Same here. In all likelihood I'll end up watching it though..

Yeah. It didn't look super great in the commercials - great graphics but they weren't really focusing on the acting, so I'm not super hopeful. Probably won't see in theaters, but I'll definitely end up watch it at some point.

So why did the bugs resist against enders forces so much if they already knew their species was at it's end?

That's not the impression that I got from the bugs. Read Speaker of the Dead, it should complete your understanding.

Ender's Shadow really killed Orson Scott Card for me... haven't been able to read one of his books since.

that was where he turned Petra from a strong female character into a baby making factory and introduced gay conversion as something characters strive for because there's no way to experience happiness in life without having biological children.
Petra failed Ender repeatedly. She is not a strong character.

Regarding Ender's Shadow: Did I seriously read a different book or did I just not pick up on that at all when I read it?

The main people who see these "hidden messages" in the books are the ones who wikipedia OSC and the hate for him and then read all about it and then agree.

I've read the entire series almost 5 times (Ender and Bean series both) and I've never even noticed or thought about those aspects in the entirety of the series.

Could he have implied them through his own personal beliefs? Probably. Could I really tell in the entire overarching story? Not really.

not really. I read the Ender's Shadow series pre-wikipedia, before he'd really gotten public about his beliefs.

you'd have to be blind not to see that the whole series is about the virtues of making babies. he even introduces a gay character in the book just to have him lament about how unhappy he is because he can never have his own kids (though by the end of the series, he's converted to straight and was much happier)

Dune needs to be a mini series, not another movie.

I could get behind that. Syfy's version was better than the movies, but still kinda on the terrible side. Someone really needs to do it justice!

I might go to see Ender's Game at the $2.50 theater and would probably get it from Redbox. I read the book a few years ago and enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away.

What I'd really like to see is a well-done The Mote in God's Eye movie. That has to be one of the greatest sci-fi novels.

Saw it this afternoon. I was very pleasantly surprised. I believe Gavin Hood did everything within his power to remain faithful to the original while giving it a believable 2 hour treatment.
Unfortunately the Locke and Demosthenes treatment is completely left out, but they still cover Ender's relationship with Valentine and Peter quite well.
The ending was not what I was expecting at all.
It looks as though they left the sequel open to the Ender side of the novels instead of the Shadow series.
All in all, I have to say this was probably the best any director could have realistically done with what is already a dense and complex story.

I saw it yesterday. It was a steaming pile of vile hair ball cat vomit. Predictable, over simplified, the military were pussified and the acting and story in general was rushed and fucking horrible. I assume book was better. Other than that it was great.

I read the book before and the movie is not totally dumbed down. Adult themes are intact. Petra is shown as equal, its not a "whitewash" movie casting and Ender's "kill" is intact, or at least one of them.

I wish they show more of Ender and Valentines scenes from the book. These two (and their brother Peter) will rule the galaxy one day and with the upcoming sequels its a missed opportunity they did not show more of the sibling relationships.

And also the battle sims. Its different when you imagine it and seeing it done on the screen.

Sadly, anyone who didn't read the book will probably feel the same way. You see the movie completely differently if you're familiar with the original material.

I thought it was pretty good. Honestly they kept closer to the book than I expected, and really the biggest fault is that it's not long enough for the pacing to be right. I felt rushed through the whole movie, and we don't spend enough time at each stage of Enders education to get to know the other characters. I actually would have preferred two separate movies as there's just a lot of ground to cover. I'm not sure they could do any better in a single movie than this.

Is it true that
in the movie Ender knows he is killing the Buggers?
I heard that and it made me as it changes the whole dynamic of who Ender is.

No, that's not true at all in the movie. Where did you hear that? The movie stuck to the book pretty well, although the delivery wasn't always great.

Saw it last night. Read the book a couple months ago since I couldn't wait for the movie. Book was awesome. Movie was great. They obviously simplified things a lot in the movie for mass audiences, but overall kept with the vision and story of the book.

I think 2 movies would have been great, but not from the perspective of people not having read the book. Overall I'm very pleased with the movie.

I thought the movie was pretty good. With that said, I do feel like the story of Ender loses quite a bit of impact when he is supposed to be ~6 years old at the start of battle school, ~10-11 during the final battle, yet the actor playing the part is 16 years old.
