Energy cost of Christmas lights

I was wondering if anybody had computed the cost of lighting up your house ala Clark Griswold. I googled and found some good information.

Then figure in the cost of the gas people burn driving around looking at the pretty lights. It all adds up to a huge waste.

I've read the bible and I missed the part in there where it says to waste energy for Jesus!

Will this be the year we come to our senses?

1- A marketing abomination to get us to spend, spend and spend some more.
2- A time for family and friends to get together epically when separated by great distances.
3- A Christian observance.

That's pretty much a perfect description, don't think I could have possibly put it better. Oh add, end of semester/winter break for those in college, and time off work for Christmas day itself.

I was wondering the same thing. $60 bucks isn't a big deal for a month, I'm sure that's less than the lights and plastic santa cost anyhow.

I used like 12% less electricity last month and my bill went down by only 2 bucks, seems like everytime I use less I get charged more to make up the difference..sigh...:disgust:
