Energy drink after workout

You mean Red Bull and the like? If you ask me, I say those are never safe under any circumstances ever. But I'm paranoid.

Based on conversations I've had with those in health industry and "internet", I'm operating under the assumption that Red Bull\Monster\etc etc are very bad for you.

An energy drink is basically a chemical cocktail of caffeine, b vitamins, a few supplaments (taurine for example) fake colors, possibly artificial sweeteners or HFCS, ect.

There's really nothing in there that you *need* for recovery. Protein shake or chocolate milk are perfect after working out. As for the "heart racing" thing...there's actually quite a bit of studies that recommend caffeine prior to workouts. Cup of coffee, caffinated energy packs, ect. It's not discouraged.

But it's not ever something I've seen encouraged post-workout. There are much better things you can drink.

I did not start losing weight until i stopped drinking caffeine. I still drank pop but decaf only.

Agree with vi_edit, an energy drink isn't a good post-workout drink.

I'll also add that if you are working out to lose weight and due to being hungrier post-workout, you consume more calories, you're just adding back the calories you burned in that workout.

I'd say if an energy drink has any place in your day it's before a workout so it can help you put more effort into the workout itself, not so you can feel better after it. I find coffee works just as well though.

If you're looking for a post workout drink (that is similar to an energy drink) then look into Fit-Aid. It's not cheap, but it's delicious and is supposed to help recovery. YMMV.

i don't drink any of the energy drink stuff personally. used to 3 or 4 years ago but since turning 30 i've been a hell of a lot more aware of what goes in my body and damn has it made a difference.

lots, actually. though usually caffeine is correlated with weight loss, not against. I think there is a threshold though where the opposite effect is true, which depends of course on what you are drinking, how much, and how frequent, and of course your own personal physiology.

I cut out caffeine during the day and noted weight loss, and I drink black coffee with no sugar and/or green tea unsweetened clear. I can't say for sure that it is because of the caffeine but I achieved the desired outcome so who cares.
