With power supplies I'd be picky. A quality one really goes a long way. My OCZ 520W GameXtreme is still going strong since 2004 (dead quiet, extremely stable), though I complained then to a OCZ rep that in no way should a power supply be more expensive than a brand new CPU

Enermax still is a good name but I haven't used any yet.

I have to dissent. The power supply is much more important than we have been led to believe up until now, where companies are finally becoming responsible for the crap they put out.

silentpcreview.com is a good resource for more information.

CPU's have generally always strived to become more efficient (although maybe the companies lost their way looking for more power and speed).

However only recently have PSU companies as a whole really started to show concern about the quality of their products. Although that "500 watt" PSU that has been working fine for you may have you content, doesn't mean it's a good PSU. You may only have been using a real 200 watts of that psu, and it may only have really been capable of not a lot more.

A quality PSU is worth every penny, and one shouldn't be blind to the fact that it is the source of life for all of your computer.

Think twice before you trivialize ANY part of your computer. They are all much more important than you may value them.

Sorry, by the way, enermax is IMO a very good PSU company right up there with Seasonic, FSP, and Antec's better PSU's. (Among others)

This PSU has a good review on SPCR as well.

For the people who don't know.. most PSU's are manufactured by another company. In example, the Corsair commented above is made by seasonic.

You got the last part right. But who manufactures this enermax and why the bad reviews on newegg?

As of April 2007, AT is still using the OCZ 520W (the one I have) as the test reference (recent Scythe reviews). I'm not updated on the latest, but what goes for power supplies should still be the ability to provide lots of clean power, with consistency and minimum noise. The 520W OCZ has among the lowest ripples, independently adjustable voltages, and 33A on the 12V rail is still not too shabby today.

Even good companies sometimes put out duds. I stick with companies I trust, but I still check reviews etc before I buy anything from them.

When you say that the Corsair is made by Seasonic that doesn't make it a Seasonic. It is made by Seasonic according to the specs that Corsair wants. The quality of the caps or other parts may be better or worse. A different fan may be used or there may be changes to the design. Just wanted to point that out.

I have had this PS for about 1.5 years and I have been very pleased with it. I paid about 160 bucks for it when I purchased it to replace a dead Antec Neopower 480.

I have used it in two different systems.

The current system that it powers is....

Xeon 3060 @ 3.4
Bad Axe 2
Geforce 8800 GTX
Raptor 150 x 2

I have been looking at PSU's to purchase for my next build and by looking at Newegg's reviews EVERY brand has it's share of DOA's and early failures. I just picked up an AEROCOOL ZeroDBA 620 watt at Compusa for $79.99.

I was basing that on SPCR's review of the corsair and prior reviews of the seasonic.

Combines the modular cabling of the Seasonic M12 with the quieter single 120mm fan cooling configuration of the S12. Highly efficient. About the best balanced of Seasonic's current offerings (under its own brand or other brands.) Reviewed. Nov 17/06.
Seasonic S12 Energy+ 550/650

As a rule of thumb, power supplies made by seasonic have been known for their quality. But there is always "an exception to the rule"
