I was thinking about buying an 350W Enermax EG365AX-G-FMA PSU with Manual Fan Control/Temp Control... or should I look else where?

It's for a system I'll be building soon using the sis655 motherboard.

Cheers..

Enermax are quite good - I have owned 4 and never had any problems. Antec also makes good PSU and they are often times cheaper. PSU's are a good example of the old "you get what you pay for" addage. If you buy cheap, don't expect great things. My advise is to swing by www.newegg.com and get either an Antec or Enermax, I don't believe you will be dissapointed w/ either.

The guys here at Anandtech did an article about PSU's and they gave the Antec the win by a slight margin. I tried to find the link for you but for some reason I cant.

If you are going to get a good PSU, and you want an Enermax, then try the EG465 version. A good investment now will pay off big in the future.

Back when I bought mine (the 431w one, 465something or other) I remember they were plauged with -5v rail problems, mine would hit 4.6 under reasonable load and crash things. I soldered in a POT and all is well now, and I'd imagine they'd have fixed the problem since then. Just something to look out for though.

Tom's HG has a recent PSU test that ranks the Antec True Power 380 fairly high on the 8 or so PSU's they tested. Although probably not relevent to computer use, they subjected the PSU's to full load draws and measured the max ampers the units would put out. An Enermax clone(Enermax PSU sold to another company) was one of the few units to basicly burn up under full load. Other units would do a thermal shutdown before supplying the max wattage.
I've got a Antec TP380 and my only complaint is the system has to get too warm to activate the PSU fans, they are stoped most of the time.

thats not what it says here

the enermax put out comfortably over it's rated load without a problem

I have an enermax and I'm pretty happy with mine. I can't say it's the best, but it's certainly very good.

Mine was the 350w you're looking at. It suffering from low and ever declining 5v rail until finally the system quit booting reliably at 4.18 and wouldn't run stable. Threw in my Enlight 235w and all was well again. Plug on the enermax around the 5v wires burnt. Trying it in a different system after cleaning up the plug acted like either one of the wires was broken or they hadn't bothered to strip the wires to attach the pins in the atx plug and one crimp had worked loose after being plugged in and removed only a couple times. Yes, I pull on the plug, not the wires. Would explain why it got so hot if there was minimal contact.

The warranty is meaningless since when I contacted Enermax for exchange they told me to go through the vendor who sold it to me. Which is great if you keep your receipts, if the vendor has an incredibly generous exchange policy months later and if the vendor is still in business.

Anyway, it was expensive, was loud (without making an impact in lowering overall system temp, but sure made it louder) and almost started a fire while making my computer unstable, but otherwise I guess it was ok.

Antecs seem to be very well liked, though they've had some bad batches too. Enermax might have fixed their design or assembly problem, whichever it was, on later models, but if you're getting that model I doubt it's been revised. Anyway their 'not our problem, have a nice day' service was enough to convince me to stay away. Enlights aren't fancy, but they're nicely priced over at newegg and I've yet to have a problem with one personally. That's the way I'd go if I needed a PS for a new build.

I had problems with mine (EG465ve) but it was purchased when they were first made (about 2 yrs ago).
My 5v rail drops a half a volt (0.5v) under full load. And it still does. Which is bad.
(they know of this problem, and I think they have resloved it by now)

But,

I was out of warranty. So I had to do a mod like described above by another member also.
If you do a search here in the forums for my username about 2 months ago, you'll find the descriptions of what I had to do.

although I'm still experiencing the half volt drop ... I was able to raise the voltage higher ,,, so the drop doesnt throw my motherboard into BSOD.

Enermax has good customer service. If you have problems, they try good to make good. I was just to far out of warranty.
