If anyone has a quality power supply that they paid good money for and it is not running within specs they should return it to the retailer for replacement or bitch to the manufacturer. This goes for all PSU's.

My Enermax is runing well within specs but others are not. Rather than spending more money on another PSu, why not replace it or contact Enermax and ask them WTF?

Just my opinion.

What I want to know is how Enermax got their almost perfect reputation? I have seen absolutely nothing that convinces me they are better than any other PS. I have worked with 3 Enermax power supplies and 1 had a dead fan. Also, I actually took a look at the circuitry inside and they Enermax's are not impressive at all. The components inside the Enermax 431W are about the size of the components inside my Sparkle 300W. Also, the components inside the Enermax 300W are about the size of the ones in a generic 235W. :Q

I have used a number of Sparkle's (Sparkle is the same as Fortron Source, PC Power & Cooling, Power Man, Aopen, etc.) and they have all worked perfectly. Not to mention they do a LOT better job cooling. IMO Enermax is all hype. I'll be sticking to Sparkle.

My Sparkle 400watt has no trouble keeping a steady +5v line neither does my compaq 300watt PSU, but the compaq's in for now because i can't stand not being able to hear what people are saying on the phone.

are you saying that the sparkle powersupply was loud or the compaq was loud? cuz I'm about to order a 400W sparkle and if it's loud I'll be pissed

I used to get random reboots and was deafened by the sound of my olg generic psu. I rplaced it with the Enermax 350 watt unit and my system is solid and nearly silent. My 5v rails are both in the +/- 5.05 to 5.34v range. Solid stuff im my experience.

i have the enermax 431 and although the 5v rail is low, its not unstable. if it were then that would be a prob. ive seen mines as low as 4.58.. stable as a rock!

I've got a 400W Sparkle PSU in my server and I can tell you it AIN'T quiet! The power is GREAT but it doesn't come at low decibels. :| It is not a delta fan but it sure isn't nearly as quiet as my Enermax 431W PSU. But it you want you can swap out the fan inside the PSU with a Panaflo. I'm just not sure it (Panaflo fan) pulls out enough heat though.

I think i'll be getting a Leadman 400w to replace my Enermax. From what i've seen the voltages on that power supply are much closer to spec and more stable.

<< I opened up my case, stayed in the BIOS, moved the 20 wire ATX power cable around and watched my +5v rail fluctuate. If I left it bent in the position it had been in, it sometimes would drop as low as 4.76. When I reversed the bend, it stayed at 4.98v. >>

You probably have a loose connection. Bending the wire jiggered the connection. With the wire in 1 position the connection is good. With it in the other position the connection is bad. That seems a more plausible explanation than saying a bent wire affects the voltage!

And to all the yo-yo's who put absolute faith in the accuracy of their motherboard's voltage reporting capabilities - you have to be joking! Most of the time you're lucky if the first digit is correct, let alone accurate down to 2 decimal places. (well not quite that bad but certainly not much better!) In the case of fluctuating voltages (nevermind the absolute accuracy) it is equally likely that the motherboard or other component is causing the fluctuations as the power supply. Nothing is ever quite so simple...

Don't you know that you cannot make any sharp bends in speaker cables? It flattens the soundstage, makes the highs shrill and loosens the bass! I can only imagine what sharp bends would do in your computer case! Don't tell this to IBM, as they will tell you this is the cause of the 75GXP failures! Sisoft Sandra is really accurate especially with the disk benchmark; the reason for all of the inconsistencies is because people kink their cables! My X15's access time was over 7 mS before I straightened the cables with duct tape and bamboo...

Cheers!
