I suppose I would watch at least part of A race, just to see what it is like. But overall sounds very boring. And I LOVE racing.

Also, I hope thats not what the cars will look like, because it looks like an aerodynamic nightmare.

... Not sure why there's so much hate already in this thread. It's a really cool concept, the cars look awesome, and it will be very VERY interesting to see how each car actually performs given the team-specific programming. Also, who doesn't want to watch the first episode and potentially see the cars freak out and crash into each other?

I do not hate it because it is Nvidia powered series. I hate it as a fan of WRC, F1, Ayrton Senna's, and Robert Kubica's. For me whole point of racing is the team play between man and a machine. Its the masterpiece of it. Pulling one part of it creates space for only showing off technology, not competitive achievement.

they should have at least one driver.

the only reason people watch car racing is for the crashes...

There was nothing better than seeing Kamui Kobayashi crashing at the start of the race on first curve into someone else. Most hilarious parts of every race.

Exactly!

plus, how will they program in risk taking, or knowing the exact timing to dart to the inside line for a pass.

I am typically not a huge fan of one class spec racing, such as nascar. This is basically that, but with no drivers :/

Sounds like a reason to watch...

Most race cars today have so much technology in them, this is just another step away from the days of raw machine vs road.

I wonder if there are teams from Turn 10 (Forza)/Kunoz (AC)/Slightly Mad (Project CARS)/Polyphony (GT) that already have put time and effort into AI racing? Seems like they would have a competitive advantage.

So in future: Cars will be driven by AI, and compete with other AI's.
Humans will compete in VR driving the cars, eh?

It looks like Nvidia and other technology companies sucked a lot of reality distortion field from Steve Jobs to suck money from people on absolutely pointless stuff(Im not talking about VR, but Self Driving racing cars).

No, in the future (likely a very distant one) we'll have some derivative of Skynet ruling over the human race & they'll make us race for them just for fun, kind of like cockfighting D:

They can call it the Pinewood Gran Prix. ESPN must be begging BSA for the rights to air their current driverless racing series, the Pinewood Derby.

maybe if it wasn't just nvidia hardware. if they used different computers it might be more interesting

Put a driver(not software driver, human being) in them. THEN it will be interesting.

It cracks me up how many people seem to think this is going to be a bunch of cars going around a perfect driving line on a track - racing is much closer to "Go" than "Chess" and it I really don't think it's going to be boring at all.

I'll still watch F1, Indy, and WEC as well as race SCCA, but I'm super excited to see what happens when humans compete in algorithmic terms.

The car looks like a giant penis.

My manhood doesn't look like that...

The first couple of races while they are learning may be interesting. I assume this is really just for the advancement of AI? Not really for entertainment?

What does that have to do with it? The algorithms are all that matter.

The sponsorship opportunities are hilarious too:

Siri dives hard to the inside of Cortana but Google Now missed a braking point and smashes into Siri. Siri drops from pole to 7th but has plenty of race to make up time. Google Now receives a drive through penalty for the racing incident.
