Wow - not the kind of thing AMD needs right now with Volcanic Islands days away.

Quote from Origin press release.

"This decision was based on a combination of many factors including customer experiences, GPU performance/drivers/stability, and requests from our support staff. Based on our 15+ years of experience building and selling award winning high-performance PCs, we strongly feel the best PC gaming experience is on NVIDIA GPUs."

I wonder if its due to many boutique buyers using Multiple GPU's so crossfire issues could have played a part. Although if Mantle takes off this winter, they may need to reverse this decision.

Dang, that sucks for the 0.0001% of the market that Origin sells to. Oh well.

The one time I tried AMD back in the day I had a ton of issues. Two Asus HD 4870 Dark Knight video cards in Crossfire.

Flickering textures in the Witcher and Neverwinter Nights 2 and GPUs not down clocking in desktop was what forced me to return them. Also, I could only get one of my cards to overclock in Crossfire mode, instead of two.

Needless to say that left a bad taste in my mouth. But that was a long time ago, so I'm sure AMD has improved a lot since then..

However you can't convince me that AMD has the same support as NVidia. The fact that Crossfire has been broken for so many years is proof of that imo..

AMD needs to change their image, and even though Origin PC isn't a big PC vendor, this doesn't help at all.

Wonder how much they got paid.

Maybe a couple of bucks and a buy 1 get 1 free Quizno's coupon. I doubt Origin PC has enough market clout to warrant get paid to do something like this. Their volume is so low, that they very likely are speaking the truth about their support staff complaining being a major factor. When you're a boutique dealer, simplifying your product variables is essential to minimizing the amount of support staff you need and how much work they have to do.

Crossfire being "broken for so many years" is news to me, seeing as how I've been using Crossfire for a few years (along with SLI) and have had minimal issues.

Yeah so a tiny OEM has all these issues and the major ones don't? This is simply the next phase of Nvidia's smear campaign because they don't have squat to combat AMD on technology. Smaller companies are more easily bought, and this story will doubtless be reported in all the major sites anyway.

AMD's biggest problems right now are with multi-card setups. How many highend multi-card setups do HP and Dell sell through their mainstream brands? I'm going to go with zero. Which is also likely the majority of the PC's that Origin sells.

And they chose right now when AMD has hardware frame metering incoming? This is as plain a buyout as you'll see, and this is Nvidia's response to AMD's Mantle. They literally have zero to offer technology wise and will pull out every stop to smear AMD over the next year.

Zero? Really? Pretty sure they have a pretty nice multi-gpu solution going for them....

"combination of many factors *including*..."

Odd choice of words. Would have been much easier to say "based on the following:" unless they are omitting some factor that would be in their best interest not to make public.

In other words, the phrasing suggests open-ended language that is carefully selected by lawyers, more specifically, phrasing that is dictated by terms of a non-disclosure agreement as part of why they are switching to a single-vendor agreement.

Isn't this because Origin buyers have close to zero skills related to hardware and software?

So if I called them and specced me a no compromise really expensive R9 290X crossfire rig, they will turn me down?

Sadly for Nvidia, SLI'd Titan's still won't be able to match a single 290X in BF4.

Also sadly for Nvidia, everybody knows exactly what they are like and stepping up their smear campaign will not be a surprise to anyone.

Infraction issed for thread crapping.

You don't need a multicard Titan/7970GE setup to run on a single monitor. For the people shelling this kind of money out to Origin PC, they are likely using more than one monitor or transitioning to a 4k display which currently is seen as a multi-monitor setup. If you've been keeping up with the news, AMD's latest frame metering driver does not work with multi-monitor setups.

Probably intended as a troll post, but yes, that likely is the case. People with a lot of money who want to have the best, but don't want to put the time or effort into building and troubleshooting the setup. Nothing wrong with that, I can certainly understand that viewpoint.
