I don't think the lighting was ideal in that situation. You've got hot spots on your faces in various places in the pics.
Also I don't think self pics are the best for this. You're focusing too much on the camera - when the timer is gonna go off, etc. You can't really compose a shot from the other side of the lens very well (and I've tried it too - they just don't come out as good). I would definitely have someone else do some photos for you. If you were closer I'd help out, but TX is a bit far
It's just these types of photos come out so much better when you two are focused on each other and you're allowing someone else to see the scene and compose a shot and capture something less posed that's more personal, etc.
In the link with the 6 photos:
#1 - Background is blown out and distracts from the image by drawing your eyes away a bit. Her eyes are a bit dark, and a hotspot on forehead. Focus is good, as is DOF.
#2 - Similar to #1 with the background being a bit bright and the hotspots. I don't particularly like the way your heads are positioned.
#3 - I like the pose - the harsh light on her right arm is taking away from this photo. I think in all of them they could have benefited from a diffuser panel and some fill flash.
#4 - I don't like the pose - hands in your pockets...harsh light on the side of your face and your face creates a shadow on hers which darkens her face more and her eyes completely dissappear. Hard to see the effect on a self timer, but easily spotted with a pair of eyes behind the camera.
#5 - Good photo - if you could get rid of the blown highlight on her forehead again it would be better.
#6 - Good pose, don't like the crop. Her hand looks a bit out of place with so little of it in the shot - I would have her move it up further/move it more to your chest. Top of your head is cut off...not a huge deal, just personally don't like it here. I think this would have been better shot in portrait orientation to get more of your bodies in the image.
That's my $.02
