actually German is germanic just like English and it's even worse because they have THREE genders.

I'm going to start learning German at some point. Those genders and der, die, whatever do look scary. Best I'll probably do is memorize some expressions.
As for French genders, the endings do occasionally help (like -ette) but compared to Spanish, I've found less of a pattern. For example, la computadora and la ventana for Spanish should translate to la ordinateur and la fenêtre in French. On the otherhand, el papel and la luz don't help anyone...
On English in general, I learned a while ago to ignore the spelling: it's pronounced the way it's pronounced, spelling is more like a hint in English. Irish, now that's a real bitch. Good luck:
