Enter The Matrix: 6 CD's

PC.IGN is reporting that they managed to get the size of the new Enter the Matrix game from Infograms. The expected size? 2 discs worth for consoles(GC, PS2, and Xbox), and a whopping 6 CD's for the PC version. 6 CD games aren't unheard of, they date back to at least 1996 with Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, but they are rare. EtM contains a lot of cut-scene data, which explains the CD count, although it's unknown just how many CD's are data, and how many CD's are cut-scenes. Either way, prepare to make a lot of room in your CD collection for this game.

I hope they make a DVD version.

I played the DVD version of Riven and it was really nice.

But I guess it doesn't matter much for various types of games.

Just a little nostalgia in regard to amount of CD's:

Phantasmagoria: 7 CD's
Wing Commander 4: 6 CD's
Gabriel Knight 2: 6 CD's
Wing Commander 3: 4 CD's
11th Hour: 4 CD's (I think, not sure though)

Of course all of this was because of FMV, which thankfully is long gone (with a few good exceptions).

Hehe, I've played through Wing Commander 3, 4, and Starfleet Academy. All great games IMO.

Baldurs gate was also somewhere around 5-6 cds... and i really hope this game is as good as it looks. it ties in with the movie and adds in parts of the story, supposedly the only way to get the complete story is to watch all the movies, the animatrix, and play the game. I mean they filmed special live action scenes just for the game, so it had better be worth it

Oh for the love of God, it is time to move to DVD when you are using 6 CDs! Ya, maybe back in the day when very few people had DVD drives I could see not putting it out on DVD. But the game should come out on DVD and CDs now. 6 CDs is freakin' ridiculous! I bought Riven way back in the day and it was like 5-6 CDs, and let me tell you, IT WASN'T FUN! I had to freakin' switch out CDs everytime I went to a different part of the island. :| I loved it when they came out with the DVD version. ONE DVD and I could go wherever I wanted without switching discs. This game should come out on DVD, if you don't have one, tough, buy one!

Maybe they'll go the route of Baldurs Gate 2 and offer versions on DVD and seperate versions on multiple CD's to cater to everyone.

6 CDs? That's not that big of a deal... lots of games today require close to that anyways. I remember a time when we needed to use 30+ floppies to install a program. Windows 95 came in like 48 floppies. Borland C+ came close with 40 floppies. Microsoft Office was 30something.

IIFC Wing Commander 2 + speech pack was around a dozen floppies. And we liked it!

Ok then why do they need TWO DVDs?
(6x700=4.2 MB; less than 1 DVD's capacity)

PC Games are typically compressed as many of the files can just be uncompressed and saved to your hard drive
