Anyone using this software? I'm curious how you like it and how it performs in the real world.

Meh, it's a relatively slow day in the software forum. Unfortunately, I know nothing about CommVault.

We use commvault and have been happy with it so far. I am not the backup guy, but when I ask for a restore from my backup guy he always has one. From what I have gathered the only complaints he has is the cost.

Yes, we are using commvault. Chose it to replace backup express (terrrible backup gui). It is VERY easy to use and it works great. We are using it to do D2D2T in conjuction with a data domain dd565 and a neo2000 tape library. The only con as a previous user said is the price, you pay a license for a file agent, any type of database agent has its own cost (sql, exchange ect). Shoot me a PM if you want to have a conversation if you have any questions.

Cost is not a concern since I'm comparing it to Tivoli...

Basically I need the following:
Backup to disk only with no limitation for volume size
Replication to remote site
WORM capability
Multiple OS support
Plugins for SQL/Exchange

CommVault and Tivoli both do all of these things but I was just looking for any gotchas or problems with CommVault, I haven't really heard much about them before.
Furthermore, ddupe is NOT a possibility due to compliance reasons so that doesn't matter.

We looked at netbackup, networker, and commvault. We found all 3 were great products. The reason we went with netbackup was because we found we already owned a older license and it was cheaper to renew the support contract rather then buy a whole new package.

Tried it, very interesting, but not very intuitive, but this was version 7. Very demanding (hardware-wise), so you need to factor in costs of beefy hardware.

Wrong, have you looked at OST? Also, depending on the size of your organization/remote sites check out PureDisk.

I've gone enterprise backups for years and worked at some of the largest financial companies in the country and as a subcontractor for Symantec. Also certified in every version since they had certification. Ask me anything you want to know about Netbackup.

Hmmm, that's great news actually. I'll have to have a word with my vendor about that misinformation. How does the replication function? What are some of the features it has? I need to go cross country (we have a fast line) with it. Do you know if it has a max volume size that it can handle?

Puredisk is licensed by the TB, I think they max you out at around 24TB (post-dedupe) a node but don't quote me on that. Your replication speed is going to be dependent upon latency just like anything else on the line.

OST/Open Storage is a little more complex and expensive. I have a couple DXi 7500's but that might not be the neighborhood you're playing in.
