I don't rent cars all that often, but I'm used to paying much more when I do. I checked all of the major companies and stumbled on this deal. Rent from Friday-Monday at $9.99/day with a 100 mi/day limit. No other strings attached really - my total came to $33.48 out the door. Just thought I'd pass it along as a lot of people will probably be looking to rent cars over the next few weeks.

$33.48 total for a week or a day? Since it is too much for a day, but pretty good for a week. I assume you get compact car.

Don't they try to upsell you on the insurance?

They always do, some worse than others, let me tell ya...

I've dealt with both Enterprise and Hertz this past month.

Enterprise tried to upsell on insurance, then had me initial a number of places stating I refused, blah blah blah.

Hertz did the same thing, except the person went as far as to say "you know even if your insurance pays for any damages we will still bill you a rental fee for the days that the car is in the shop since we won't be able to rent it, but if you pay for our insurance we won't do that."

I hope I never have to deal with Hertz again.

EDIT:
$33.48 total for a week or a day?

The OP said Friday - Monday, meaning three days (day = 24 hour rental period).

I know that is horse pucky and I have friends that work in both the insurance industry and car rental industry...
My friend that works for the car rental even said you don't need it if your own insurance covers car rentals. It only applies to tourists from out of the country, people that don't own cars, or if you only have liability insurance on your own car. They have to aggressively sell it to you because it's part of their monthly sales goals and is highly profitable...

Your insurance company will pay for everything if you have full coverage(as long as you don't have insurance from a no name weird company) - if the accident is not your fault they go after the other party's insurance company like a normal car accident...

Anyhow - GREAT DEAL OP!! Do you know how long this deal is good for? I'm planning to travel after the holidays

I had a big surprise as well when i wrecked my car a few months ago. Insurance said they would pay for 30 bucks a day which kinda scared me because after taxes i would have still had been paying almost 20 a day.

Insurance get a discount from them and i ended up paying something like 30 cents a day with the renters insurance included heh.

SZLiao214, that's strange. Usually insurance will completely cover the cheapest rental (minus gasoline).

The reason I brought up the question about insurance is because at one of the Enterprise Rental I went to in the past wouldn't let me drive their car off the lot without buying insurance.

In contrast to Zap's experience Hertz was less painful for me. They had me initial the paperwork without giving me a hard time. I guess it's YMMV depending on the management at each individual site.

If i had chosen a economic car it actually would have. The upgrade to a mid size sedan (sonata in my cases) raised the price a bit and was worth it.

If they hassle you like that, you need to hassle them like that. Start by getting the manager's name and asking for the phone number to corporate (even if you don't follow up on it).

Wow, this forum must be full of rich people who don't have deductibles.

Just wanted to update the thread. The guy really pushed their insurance, but I said no about 5-6 times and he finally dropped it. The plan he was pushing was $15 per day. He even tried to guilt me into it by saying how I'd only paid $10/day. I told him that if the insurance was a good deal for me, he wouldn't be pushing it - he was only pushing it because he knew he would make money on it, which meant I would lose money on it.

Just tell them, nothing you have to refuse more than once is ever a good deal.

For the poster who wasn't allowed to drive off the lot, did you have any kind of proof of insurance?

Yeah, I did have proof of insurance. I was 25 at the time so that may have a lot to do with it also.

Hertz is really crappy company. They do something with cars disabling fastrak devices to work, then they try to charge you $30 just becasue they receive violation letter. So I have to literally stop car at bridge tall, roll down window and expose fastrak device out to get it read.

Some credit cards provide the same damage waiver coverage, but good to know where you stand with CC and/or insurance, maybe print out a fact sheet prior to travel.

Great deal, I used to be a driver at the Bell, CA location. Cheapest price with no deals, with insurance covering some of the cost is around $30/day
