My dad bought two of these last week, I just sent him an email telling him to go get a pricematch. (costco rules)

Thanks for the deal, maybe he will get me one with the money he saves...

No you cannot just print these coupons. Costco booklet coupons normally have a barcode associated with them on the back of the coupon. However, most Costco's will happily apply a coupon for a member on request even if the member doesn't have the coupon on them (although this seems like such a high demand deal that they actually may need a hardcopy of the coupon).

I just popped into Staples -- they have the same LCD for 629.99... I went because I saw it online and wanted to be able to see the LCD in person before buying.

The manager at Staples offered to PriceMatch the item. Funny, because at first he said something about how Costco sometimes has stuff that is a one off product just for them. But, he went to their website to get a model # (the coupon doesn't have the model number). He couldn't find one at their website.

So, he went to Envision's website and sure enough, there is only 1 19in LCD. So he told me to contact him Tuesday, as he was going to double check to cover his end.

However, he could only match the price on the coupon PRE REBATE.

So, I guess for those of you that are NOT Costco members, you can probably get this at LCD at Staples for 439.99.

For me personally, I'd not mind getting it at Staples so I could use the credit card instead of debit/check. But, I'd then miss out on the rebate of 40 bucks. Its not on the Envision website, so I sent off an email to them about the LCD rebate to see if it exists outside of Costco.

If it does, those people there with no Costco membership can probably get this LCD for the 399.99

I'll post what I know on Tuesday. I don't have a Costco membership, but my S/O does...

I know that would be pretty bad on a CRT, but how crisp is .29 pitch on an LCD?

well all of the 19" LCDs that I've looked at have .294 pitch....

even the expensive ones, so I am assuming it's not that bad...

Indeed good question....Any Takers?

0.29mm dot pitch doesn't mean the same thing on LCDs as it does on CRTs. The LCD has a native resolution (1280x1024 for this monitor) and each dot is individually addressable.

On a 19" CRT monitor with a 0.29mm dot pitch, the highest resolution it can natively display would be about 1300 pixels across. Any resolution higher than that wouldn't be perfectly clear because the resolution isn't high enough to display all the dots on each line. Neighboring pixels would blur.

I don't even know why they would list the dot pitch for an LCD, it doesn't matter. The native resolution tells the exact thing. It's not like you can display a higher resolution and let it be blurry like you can on a CRT.

The 20" LCD has a 0.254mm dot pitch because it displays 1600 dots across. Any 20" LCD with 1600x1200 native resolution will have that dot pitch.

Any 17" 1280x1024 native resolution LCD will have a 0.27mm dot pitch.

Any 18" 1280x1024 native resolution LCD will have a 0.286mm dot pitch.

(it will be quoted close to those numbers due to rounding)

Use a little algebra and note that 25.4mm = 1 inch, and you will see that LCD dot pitch is a function of screen size and native resolution only, unlike CRTs that have a mask or grill. On funky aspect ratio LCDs (1280x1024... that is not a square pixel on a 4:3 screen size), the horizontal and vertical dot pitch will be different. On square pixel 4:3 LCDs (1024x768 15" LCDs or 1600x1200 20" LCDs), the dot pitch will be the same for horizontal and vertical.

My laptop LCD (Inspiron 8500 w/15.4" WSXGA+ screen) has a 0.197mm dot pitch. And Inspiron 8200s with UXGA (1600x1200) 15" screens have 0.191mm dot pitch. It's purely a function of screen size and resolution. So don't worry about the number.

Ya at our costco we have to make sure we give the coupons to the members or else we get yelled at by a manager. We have to like pretty much put it in there hand.. alot of ppl don't even want them though.

yeah, my dad has an executive card. i dont think its gonna matter though because i dont see this selling out in a matter of minutes like some other items, not because its not hot, just because big ticket items seem to sell more slowly. either way i'll be there @ 7 am

Are you sure exec members get in an hour earlier on Black Friday? I was under the impression that it was 8am for everybody, regardless of the type of card.

Our costco has the sign that says your supposed to but we let everyone in at the same time.

good post overall except for this little bit - 1280x1024 lcds are 5:4, not 4:3. their pixels are normal squares and there is no funky aspect ratio to the images that are produced.
