Thanks for the advice. I tried that, but the text still isnt that clear. The only acceptable mode is 1280x1024, which is the max setting. I actually like 1024x768 as web pages display more nicely.

overall, satisfied.

Text will be fuzzy on most LCDs that are running in their non-native resolution. One option you can try is to run your LCD in native resolution and then increase the font size under display properties > advanced. I think software is available to change font and GUI size also.

Picked this up yesterday, and I think it's a great monitor. I have NO dead pixels, and NO ghosting. I loaded BF1942 in native resolution, with a fx5900 card, and observed no ghosting, so I don't know why you guys are having problems.

No ghosting on my system either. I just tested out LOTR:TTT DVD and it was fine. It takes a little getting used to at the higher resolution (I've always used 1024x768 even on the 19" monitor I replaced), but otherwise it was been fine.

I just scored one today at the Cosco in Pikesville, MD. They had 2 left and the $398 deal was still on through today. $498 -$50 in store coupon -$40 rebate. This Monitor is awesome, as it is far superior to my Microtek C893 18" LCD. The monitor is bright and absolutely ghost free in numerous games and cruisng the net so far. I tried a DVD movie and it was superb. A little jaggy in full screen, but perfect in near full screen. I am running the monitor on a homemade Epox 8RDA+, AMD 2200, 1GB mem and a PNY ti4600 in DVI mode. This monitor is as sharp and the fonts as as crisp as my Dell 600 Centrino SVGA laptop. The $40 rebate is also good through tomorrow, 11/30. The only drawback to Costco is that you can only pay with cash, American Express, bank debit card or Costco credit card and first you have to join.

Michael like you on my old 19" CRT a Samsung 900IFT(great monitor this is an 18" diagonal screen)..I always used 1024x768x32 in games and everyday viewing..worked wonderful

I tried Max 2 today and have had no ghosting so far I love the monitor except trying t oget used too 1280x1024...typing this reply the text is small but I enlarged my web stuff to largest..changed icons etc....

I am running it at 75hz refresh rate on DVI(manual I d/l from website as it was not included indicated DVI will not do 85hz..wonder if analog would be a better choice....

BTW what settings are you running contrast, brightness, red, blue and green color???

I can not belief I got a 19in" LCD with DVI for $434 with tax after rebate..this is same price my Samsung 19in CRT was 4 yrs ago

nealh, don't sweat the refresh rates for LCD monitors. LCD's do NOT refresh, so it's misleading when the manufacturers tout their refresh rates. LCD pixels are turned on when the screen changes, and then STAY on until the screen changes AGAIN, as opposed to CRTs which constantly re-draw all pixels. So, there is no difference (at least in eye-strain terms) between 60/75/85 hz when running your new toy. Try it out, you'll see!

Of course, this baby (I have one, too! ) is very bright, so brightness may be an issues -- but then you just turn the brightness down.

I have just checked around Sony's, Viewsonic, Samsung..all seem to have the same LCD for usually $200 more..It appears the actually panel is a fairly std 19in..as almost all only have a 25ms response rate...the prices range from about $700-$1000

I should note Samsung reported their 19in as <25ms

Interestingly sony reports contrast of 700:1 vs 600:1..brightness seems to be 250:1

I am sure there are 19in panels with faster response rate ..wonder how expense they are?

So I have concluded this is a smoking deal for a 19in monitor...do not forget the great return policy with Costco..

Only real question is whether I would be better off with a 17in with a faster response rate at around the same price?

Also I asked before but what do you have your brightness, contrast, red, green, blue set at?

Also are you using DVI or analog

I have my red, blue, green set to 50 each...brightness way down 10 and contrast at 30

Has anyone used the online rebate process at costco?

I use the online rebate process at Costco all the time. Super reliable and the cheques come in about 4 weeks.

Michael

ps - Photoshop elements 2.0 give me a weird error when I first start it up saying that the monitor profile isn't right and I should rerun my monitor calibration software. Any ideas on that one?

Good day, all...

I posted earlier that my LCD suffered from the "jaggies", ghosting and uneven brightness...

When I boxed it back up, I noticed a pretty large dent in the bottom of the box that I had not noticed before, so my LCD may have been dropped. So I returned it to Costco the same day and they actually still had one, so they exchanged it for me. I've been using the new one for two days now and I am very pleased with it.

I must say that all of my original problems with this LCD are pretty much gone. The brightness is very even (although I did turn down the brightness).
There are no "jaggies" when watching DVD's in a window, but there is still some at full screen. And as for ghosting, there is very little. Star Wars Galaxies looks great, but Diablo II does show some ghosting when running fast, as the whole screen is changing constantly. Setting the refresh rate at 60Hz seemed to help this a little. 3DMark2001 runs just as it should, with almost no obvious ghosting. Text (in 2D and 3D) is very sharp, even at 1280x1024. I can't believe what a difference there is, compared to my old 19" CRT.

I am now very pleased with this LCD and have no reservations about it now. My first one must have been defective.

Boobers are you using DVI...

when you set it to 60hz was this just for the game or is this your "permanent" setting?

I'm using DVI from a GF4 TI4200.

I've set it to 60Hz, and I think I'll leave it there. The 3D quality of Diablo II looks smother (less ghosting, almost none) and I see no difference in 2D quality.
