David,
Feel free to share where one can get that sort of a job. Granted I live in Oregon which has the highest unemployment rate in the nation, but those types of jobs here are not what I've been seeing.
I graduated back in August with an IT degree and the school had ZERO internships in IT while I was there. I've seen more now, of course that I can't get into because I am a graduate.
If you could forward me some info on where to get a $50 an hour job. I guess technically I am a know nothing punk that needs a few years to get productive. The job postings I see want 5 years of professional experience in programming, which sadly is not something many recent college grads will have.
Oregon isn't that far from CA. Heck, its got a lot of the same mentality, budget crisis, and other aspects of CA. Probably from a lot of the Californians moving up here.
FWIW, the Median Home Cost in Portland is in the 160s, but the unemployment rate is also upwards of 8%...
There's going to be a special on the news about jobs going from Oregon to India tonight
Also, I've got a friend in Austin TX who is a programmer making about 72K a year, when the median home cost in Austin is 130k. I'd certainly pass along the info you give me to him. I'm sure he wouldn't mind moving up. He has 12 years of continous work experience. He should be able to land a job in that 100 dollar an hour range or higher.

I was reading in the local college newspaper that starting salaries are 92 to 100K a year now. That's about $50 an hour. That's for a know nothing college punk who needs a few years of training to get productive.
