I think I have a different definition of nerd and geek than most of you, but in my mind a geek is a person who thinks they are a nerd but actually arent. For example someone who thinks they are a computer expert because they know how to use bittorrent and can impress all of their non-geeky/nerdy friends with their mediocre talents. Nerds actually are good with computers/math but they dont have any cool friends to show off their talents to.

Seems to me you both are confused in your usage of words.

as for your question, i always thought nerd was worse than geek. i get called both by my family/ friends tho. i dont consider myself to be either one.

Female here. I consider geek to be a term of flattery, nerd to be a derogatory term.
