Yes, that was it. IIRC the guy out of the blue confessed it to the OP. The friend was arrested for it some time after. I couldn't seem to find the original thread though. Thank god someone else remembers it.

Those were rather interesting threads, unfortunately the first happened while I was on my 3 year vacation from AT. That's definitely a contender for epic thread of the decade.

The great NVidia shill witch hunt in the VC forums which netted us Rollo.

Rollo had been a paid guerrilla marketer (shill) by AEG on behalf of NV. He had denied it for months and some folks got so worked up about it they got vacationed. He was later found to be paid to make forum posts and banned.

The flame wars were epic. The repercussion still continue to this day with some bad blood with former ATers running off to start Alienbabeltech.

I remember Rollo. He was certainly heavily pro nVidia to the point where you knew something was up with him. Do you have a thread here where it shows he was a paid shill?

Going through the mod discussion forum thread, in regards to Mosh's banning:
