I'm going to upgrade a new EPoX 8RDA+. But now i wonder that does EPoX 8RDA+
supports PCI bus locking? When a 166MHz FSB overclocked to 200MHz FSB
Athlon, is that the PCI still running at 33MHz?

Your helps will be appreciated. Thanks

Regards,
Thong Kee Sin

I figured as much. I personally think all the boards do the same, as it's a function of the Nforce2 chipset, and it is "locked" by default. This would explain why all the Nforce 2 boards only have AGP manipulation in the bios. I don't think the Nforce2/Hypertransport works like the conventional chipsets we are used to and dividers are really not something to look for anymore.

I would even venture to guess that most new chipsets we see from now on will not use the tradiontional divider system. Instead, they will likely all have the latest generation of clock generator's that will simply make all the buses independantly adjustable of each other, and not tied to one another requiring dividers. This would allow a much greater flexibility in "tuning" the chipset for maximum performance, or keeping everything in spec for maximum stability.

We shall see I guess...

That overclockthis guy does have an abrasive approach to stuff, doesn't he. Maybe the mods gave him a time-out.

I'm still here. I'm rarely around. Mods haven't given me a time out - why should they? mechBgon - explain, or 'b'gon for good!

I'm all for good news - and I think if the Epox news is true, then by all means - congrats to whomever is buying or will buy their products. Seems like an excellent board.
To all those who think that my opinions are worthless and I'm pulling stuff out of my ass - aaaaaaaa, nevermind...its too close to christmas - I'll let this one go.

This is good information, especially with all the contradictory messages swirling around the net.

What do you think of this information from Overclockers.com?

"Epox 8RDA Two days ago, I got copies of emails from Epox technical support saying that this board does not have a PCI lock and that the maximum divisor is /5.

I've now seen emails purported from Epox technical support saying that there is a PCI lock.

There's one place that has Epox "tech support" at hand, but they refuse to answer the question, and if you ask twice, they expel you from the forum.

I don't find this acceptable. Do you?

P.S. According to this forum thread, more than a couple of (but not every) GF4s are getting fried when put into this board. Don't know who's fault that is, but I wouldn't put the two together at the moment. "

Regarding that GF4 issue, I'll C&P what I wrote in a different thread:

I've been running the BFG GF4 4200 from the BestBuy deal and haven't seen any problems. My opinion rests with what Daniel posted over there, namely:

"Given the popularity of the GF4's and the prior testing of this board with the GF4's it seems highly unlikely this is more than coincidence. If it were more then we would be seeing hundreds if not thousands of complaints, not 3 or 4.IMHO"

I mean, for example, in that same thread, a person complained that "Although it didn't show in the Window Device manager, I do have a conflict. My GF4 card, onboard IDE1 controller and also my SBLive 5.1 card all were using IRQ 10". Apparently he's never read of IRQ sharing.

It's for reasons like this that I'm skeptical about such reports and from where they come. For example, who knows what third variable these people aren't considering, or what they could be doing wrong?

This issue is just wacky. You can't even get a straight answer from the manufacturer. Too many people with too little knowledge. I would really like to see this issue resolved soon, though. nForce2 has a buttload of potential. It would be a shame to see it killed in it's infancy by mobo manufacturers spouting all sorts of nonsensical "facts".

People's Republic of AOA...that site gives me the heeby jeebies every time I read a thread there. I keep waiting for the regulars to call one another "comrade".
